Our Swivel Eye-to-Eye Connector is an essential piece of marine hardware for anyone looking to prevent line twisting. Constructed from high-strength AISI 316 stainless steel, this swivel is built to withstand the harsh marine environment, offering exceptional resistance to saltwater corrosion and wear. Each end of the swivel features a solid welded eye loop. You can attach a shackle, rope thimble, or chain link to each eye. Once connected, the central swivel mechanism allows the two eyes to rotate a full 360 degrees relative to each other. This means that as one side turns (for example, an anchor spinning as it sets or a boat drifting around a mooring), the opposite side remains untwisted – protecting your lines from kinks, snarls, and undue stress.
The swivel’s design is compact yet incredibly sturdy. It has no sharp edges, and all components are smoothly finished to avoid abrasion on ropes. With smooth ball-bearing-like rotation (achieved through precision machining, though no actual ball bearings are used for maximum durability in water), it will spin freely even under load. By installing this eye-eye swivel between your anchor and rope, or between a tow line and a towed object, you ensure that any twists introduced by movement are automatically undone.
Available Sizes & Uses:
- 6 mm Swivel (Eye/Eye): Safe working load ~0.15 ton. Ideal for small boats, dinghies, and light-duty use. For instance, on a 4–5 m boat, use the 6 mm swivel between a 6 mm anchor chain and a nylon rope rode. It will prevent the rope from coiling up as the boat swings at anchor. Also excellent for fishing lines or crab trap setups – it stops the line from tangling when the trap or fish is twisting.
- 8 mm Swivel (Eye/Eye): Safe working load ~0.30 ton. Suitable for medium boats (5–8 m). Commonly placed in anchoring systems of small yachts and motorboats – e.g., connecting an 8 mm chain to an 8 mm anchor line. It ensures the anchor can spin during retrieval without transferring twists to the windlass or rope. Also useful for mooring buoys: attach one eye to the buoy and the other to your boat’s mooring line to allow your vessel to rotate freely with wind and current.
- 10 mm Swivel (Eye/Eye): Safe working load ~0.50 ton. Designed for larger boats (8–11 m). This robust swivel handles the loads of heavy anchors and longer vessels. Use it on a sailing yacht or workboat to connect a 10 mm anchor chain to a rope bridle or directly to the anchor. It’s also great for towing small tenders or inflatables – the swivel prevents the tow line from twisting if the towed dinghy bounces and spins.
(If you require an even larger size, our product range includes bigger swivels as well, but 6–10 mm covers the most common needs.)
How to Use: Simply attach the swivel between two components of your rigging system. For anchoring, shackle one eye of the swivel to the anchor’s shank and connect the other eye to your chain or rope. For mooring, one eye can be shackled to the buoy or dockeye, and the other tied to your mooring line. For towing, connect one eye to the towed object’s bridle and the other to the towing line. Once installed, the swivel will freely spin under tension, keeping your setup tidy and free of twists.
By using the Swivel Eye-Eye Connector, you prolong the life of your ropes and chains (since they won’t chafe from twisting) and improve safety (a twisted, kinked rope can dramatically lose strength). This product is a must-have for boaters anchoring frequently or leaving their boat on a mooring. With its high-quality stainless steel build, you can trust it trip after trip, season after season, in both freshwater and saltwater environments.
