This waterproof deck connector is designed to provide a reliable electrical hookup on board, even under constant exposure to water and moisture. The connector is permanently installed – for example, on a deck, bulkhead, or transom – and serves as a power or signal inlet to which a portable device can be attached via a matching male plug when needed. The two-pin version (code 01384-32 standard 3A or code 01384-52 heavy-duty 5A) has two contacts – suitable for supplying power (positive and negative) to devices such as deck lights, pumps, or chargers. The heavy-duty 2-pin model is built to handle up to 5A current, thanks to its larger pins and brass construction. The three-pin version (code 01384-33, 3A) features three contacts and allows you to carry, besides positive and negative, an additional signal or a second circuit – useful for devices with control lines or for connecting two separate circuits (for example, a combination light with a common ground and two hots for different modes). For both types, when the connector is not engaged with a plug, the cap (often made of flexible PVC) snaps closed over the opening, preventing water and debris from entering. The mounting footprint is round, with a base diameter of about 40 mm, requiring a hole of roughly 30 mm for the body. The body itself is typically made of metal with anti-corrosion plating (nickel-plated brass) or robust plastic, and it’s secured with nuts/washers from the backside, ensuring stability and a watertight fit. To use the connector, you will need the appropriate male plug with the same number of pins (available separately) – when plugged in, the male seats tightly into the socket, and often there is a threaded or bayonet coupling to twist-lock it in place for added security and water resistance. This kind of deck connector is commonly used for navigation lights (e.g. removable anchor lights), sonar transducers, connecting solar panels, or any equipment that must be removable when not in use, without leaving loose wire ends.
- 2-Pin Connector (3A/5A) – Uses: Suited for simple circuits: providing power to lamps, pumps, small winches, or auxiliary sockets. The heavy-duty 5A model also accommodates slightly higher-power loads (e.g. a spotlight). It’s recommended to wire it through a 5A–7.5A fuse for protection
- 3-Pin Connector (3A) – Uses: Use this when you need to carry three conductors – e.g. +12V, -12V, and a control signal to a device (example: installing a removable masthead light with separate circuits for anchor and running light). The total current across all three pins should not exceed ~3A, and each circuit should be protected with an appropriate fuse
- Installation: Choose a location on a horizontal or vertical surface where the connector won’t collect standing water (if horizontal, ensure a good seal and ideally have the cap facing upward). Apply a marine sealant (silicone) under the flange before tightening for extra protection. Tighten the retaining nuts firmly but avoid over-tightening to prevent damaging the seal
- Maintenance: Always keep the cap closed when a plug is not inserted. Periodically check the O-ring/seal and metal contacts – clean and apply a bit of dielectric grease if needed to prevent oxidation
