The 5-inch Riviera Genova compasses are high-precision navigation instruments, type-approved for use on boats up to around 14 meters. With a solid metal housing and fine craftsmanship by Riviera in Genoa, Italy, this compass ensures stable heading indications even in rough sea conditions. The internal gimbal suspension keeps the compass card level, and the built-in set of compensator magnets allows for individual calibration to eliminate deviation caused by the vessel’s metal components. The illumination (compatible with both 12V and 24V) aids in night steering, making the dial easy to read without glare. The compass comes with a full binnacle mounting kit, including bolts and a template, which makes deck installation relatively straightforward for a professional-grade instrument of this class.
- BW2 Model (Standard): Features a removable compass card and 5° graduation. This is the general-purpose variant suitable for most powerboats and sailing yachts, providing dependable navigation under normal conditions.
- BW2/AV Model (High Speed): Specially engineered for fast vessels (over 25 knots). It has enhanced damping of the card for stable readings at high speeds and under vibration, preventing the heading from “swinging” excessively.
- Mercantile Marine Model: A version with 2° graduation and an individual RINA test certificate for each compass. Suitable for fishing boats and commercial ships where finer resolution is needed and documented calibration is required for each unit.
- BW4 Model (Sailboat): Designed for sailing yachts with low-profile sun hoods over the helm. The compass card is flat and easy to read at an angle, ideal for installations where vertical space is limited. This model allows the helmsman to clearly see the heading even if the compass is mounted lower under a dodger or canopy.
