This replacement impeller is intended for 2-stroke Yamaha and Mariner outboards in the 60–90 HP range, produced in the 1980s and 1990s. It restores water pump efficiency in these older engines, which rely on strong coolant flow. The impeller is a direct substitute for Yamaha OEM #688-44352-03 (also noted in some catalogs as 688-44352-02-00 for earlier versions), ensuring correct fit and performance.

  • Compatibility: Compatible with a wide range of Yamaha/Mariner 2-stroke engines: 60 HP, 75 HP, 80 HP, 85 HP, and 90 HP. This includes Yamaha’s popular 3-cylinder models from the late ’80s/early ’90s (for example, Yamaha 85A, 90A) and the equivalent Mariner models (since Mariner in this range often used the Yamaha powerhead). If your engine calls for an impeller with part number 688-44352-03 (or its predecessors), this CEF impeller is the correct replacement.
  • Use Cases: These engines (60–90 HP 2-strokes) are commonly found on ~4.5–5.5 m powerboats – from classic fishing boats and bass boats to 90s-era family runabouts. Many are still in use today due to their simplicity and reliability. Over time, the old impeller can harden or wear, leading to weak cooling. This new impeller brings the cooling system back to peak performance, which is crucial during long runs, trolling, or full-throttle operation with these motors.
  • Performance: The impeller’s 6-blade design ensures that even at lower RPM (for instance, when trolling for fish) the water pump will circulate enough water through the engine. And at high RPM – say, on an extended run to a fishing spot – the impeller provides maximum flow to keep the cylinders cool. This means the engine stays at proper temperature, avoiding overheating that can cause loss of compression or damage. By maintaining efficient cooling, you get more consistent power and prolong the engine’s life.
  • Quality: Made from a high-quality flexible material (neoprene/nitrile composite), the impeller withstands the conditions inside the cooling system (constant water contact, possible debris, and temperature swings). Its dimensions (Ø A ~20.1 mm inner, Ø B ~58 mm outer, ~30 mm height) precisely match the original Yamaha impeller, making installation straightforward and ensuring reliable operation. The robust construction also means it can handle the demands of older engines which may run a bit rougher or have slight vibrations.
  • Maintenance: For older two-stroke engines, regular water pump service is especially important. It’s advisable to inspect the impeller at each annual tune-up. If the boat is operated in shallow waters or muddy conditions, sand and silt can accelerate wear – in such cases, consider replacing the impeller every year. Generally, it’s good practice to replace the impeller every two years under normal use, but never ignore signs like a weak tell-tale stream or rising engine temperature – those indicate the impeller may need immediate attention. By staying on top of impeller maintenance, you help ensure your classic Yamaha/Mariner engine runs cool and reliable for years to come.
