This universal 12V 15A toggle switch is built to provide reliable control of electrical devices in marine and automotive environments. Constructed with high-quality materials for durability and corrosion resistance, it comes in multiple configurations to suit a wide range of applications – from simple on/off switching to complex three-position momentary controls.
Variants & Uses:
- 54008-1: Two-position ON-OFF, 2-pin (SPST). Maintained on/off positions for controlling a single circuit. Ideal for basic functions like navigation lights, bilge fans, or cabin lights.
- 54008-2: Two-position ON-(OFF), 2-pin. Normally ON with a momentary OFF (spring return). Useful as an emergency kill switch or any application where the circuit should remain closed (powered) except for brief interruptions (e.g. a momentary stop/reset function).
- 54008-3 (SF54009-3): Three-position (ON)-OFF-(ON), 3-pin (SPDT). Center stable OFF with momentary ON in both up and down positions. Perfect for reversing polarity or motor direction control – for instance, operating a winch or davit: press and hold in one direction to reel in/out, and it springs back to off when released. Also suitable for horn or siren controls requiring spring-loaded activation.
- 54008-4 (SF54009-4): Two-position ON-OFF, 4-pin (DPST). Simultaneously switches two separate circuits on/off (double-pole single-throw). Great as a master battery disconnect or for controlling two devices at once in tandem (e.g. two navigation lights or twin accessories with one toggle).
- 54008-5 (SF54009-5): Two-position ON-(OFF), 4-pin. Two circuits normally closed (powered), with momentary open (off) when toggled (both circuits break simultaneously while held). Suitable for scenarios where you need to momentarily cut power to two circuits at the same time – for example, an emergency stop for a dual-circuit system.
- 54011-3: Three-position ON-OFF-ON, 6-pin (DPDT). A double-pole, three-position switch with stable ON positions at both ends and a center OFF. Commonly used to switch between two power sources or outputs, or to change the direction of a DC motor by reversing polarity (e.g. selecting between two batteries or controlling trim tab direction with a center off).
- 54011-4: Three-position (ON)-OFF-(ON), 6-pin. A double-pole, momentary toggle with spring-loaded ON positions at both ends and a center OFF. Ideal for controlling devices that require momentary operation in two directions, such as trim tabs, jack plates, or windshield wipers – you push and hold to activate in either direction and it returns to off when released.
All of the above switch variants are rated for 15A at 12V DC (and 10A at 24V DC), which covers most common marine and automotive loads. They feature robust screw or blade terminals for secure wiring connections. Installation is straightforward: they fit in a round mounting hole of approximately 12 mm and secure with a nut from behind the panel. For exposed marine installations, optional rubber toggle boots can be added to improve water resistance and protect the toggle lever from the elements.
Applications: Thanks to the range of configurations available, this toggle switch series can be used for countless purposes – from simple circuits like cabin lights and bilge pumps to specialized controls like horn buttons, engine trim controls, anchor winches, and more. In marine environments, reliability is paramount – the switch’s metal contacts and solid construction ensure dependable operation even amid vibration, shock, and saltwater exposure. Whether you’re outfitting a boat’s helm station or upgrading an off-road vehicle’s electrical system, these toggle switches provide safe, precise control for your electrical devices.
