Swivel Jaw to Eye Connector, AISI 316 Stainless

Code:
00249-06

High-quality jaw-eye swivel made of AISI 316 stainless steel, offering a secure rotating connection between a clevis (jaw) and an eye. One end features a jaw with a pin (shackle-like end) that can attach to an anchor, chain, or fitting, and the other end is a closed eye for tying or shackling a rope or chain. This design allows for 360° rotation, preventing tangles in anchor rodes and rigging. Ideal for connecting anchors to chains or joining dissimilar rigging components that need to rotate freely.

  • Material: Marine-grade AISI 316 stainless steel (corrosion-proof)
  • Design: One jaw (with removable pin) + one eye; swiveling joint for full rotation under load
  • Usage: Ideal for anchor-to-chain connection, attaching swiveling to a deck fitting, or any application needing a rotatable link between a pin connection and an eye connection

The Swivel Jaw-to-Eye Connector is engineered to solve a common marine challenge: how to connect two different types of fittings (one requiring a pin and one requiring a loop) while allowing them to rotate freely. This product is made from AISI 316 stainless steel, ensuring it can handle high loads in harsh marine environments without rusting or galling.

On one end, it features a jaw (clevis) that opens via a removable pin secured with either a split ring or bolt & cotter pin (depending on size). This jaw end can grasp a chain link, pad-eye, anchor shank, or any component with a hole that fits the jaw’s pin diameter. The pin has a locking mechanism so it won’t accidentally back out. On the other end, there is a solid circular eye—perfect for attaching a rope, hooking a standard shackle, or bolting to a fixed point.

Between the jaw and eye is a robust swivel joint, which allows the two ends to rotate 360° independently. When you use this swivel between an anchor and chain, the anchor can spin as it settles into the seabed or as the boat swings, without transferring twists into the chain. Similarly, in other applications, it prevents torque buildup and keeps your connections aligned.

Available Sizes & Uses:

  • 6 mm Jaw/Eye Swivel: Safe working load ~0.15 ton. Recommended for small boats (up to ~5–6 m) and light-duty connections. Use a 6 mm jaw-eye swivel to connect a small anchor (that has a 6 mm pin hole) to a 6 mm chain. It’s also useful for diving and fishing gear – for example, attaching a grappling hook or small anchor to a line, where the jaw attaches to the hook and the eye to the rope.
  • 8 mm Jaw/Eye Swivel: Safe working load ~0.30 ton. Suitable for mid-sized boats (6–8 m). Commonly used to connect a 7–8 kg anchor to an 8 mm chain on a recreational boat. The jaw attaches firmly to the anchor’s shackle point, and the eye links to the chain – allowing the anchor to rotate as it’s raised or if the wind/current changes. Also great for connecting deck hardware: for instance, attach the jaw to a deck-mounted eye bolt and the eye to a line or block that needs to swivel.
  • 10 mm Jaw/Eye Swivel: Safe working load ~0.50 ton. Ideal for larger vessels (8–11 m). This size can handle a substantial anchor (10–15 kg range) and chain combo – ensuring the heavy anchor can spin freely when lifting through the bow roller, reducing twists in the chain and stress on the windlass. It’s also used in heavy-duty towing or snubbing setups: attach the jaw to a towing bridle or snubber hook, and connect the eye to a tow line or snubber line, so the line can pivot with wave action.
  • 13 mm Jaw/Eye Swivel: Safe working load ~1.00 ton. Designed for serious loads on yachts and workboats (10–15 m or more). Perfect for large anchor systems – e.g., a 20 kg anchor to a 12 mm mooring chain. The robust jaw will fit thick anchor shanks or chain end links, and the eye can take large shackles or tow lines. This heavy-duty swivel is also useful for industrial lifting rigs or heavy fishing traps, where a strong, freely rotating connection is required.

Each swivel undergoes strict quality control – the jaws align perfectly with the pins, and the swivel action is smooth even under tension. The entire piece is electropolished for maximum corrosion resistance and a smooth finish.

Key Benefits: By using a jaw-eye swivel between your anchor and chain, you’ll prevent chain twists that can cause knots or jams in your windlass. You’ll also find anchoring easier, since the anchor will tend to align itself properly when retrieved. In mooring applications, the swivel avoids transferring the boat’s rotation to the mooring line, reducing wear. The jaw-to-eye combination is very versatile: essentially, it can connect hardware that normally couldn’t be directly joined. You might use it to attach a cable to a fixed point on one end and to a turning block on the other, or anywhere you have one part with a clevis fitting and another with an eye.

Installation Tips: Ensure the jaw pin is fully inserted and secured (tighten the bolt or insert the cotter pin fully). Periodically check the pin’s security, especially in high-vibration conditions. Rinse the swivel with fresh water after use in saltwater to prolong its life (though the stainless steel is rust-resistant, keeping it clean will maintain its polish and performance). Given proper care, this swivel will provide years of trouble-free service, making your boating experience safer and more convenient.
