With this set of 4 D-ring patches, you can easily enhance the functionality of your inflatable boat. They serve as additional “eyes” for tying down all kinds of cargo or gear on board. Each D-ring is made of stainless steel and firmly anchored to its PVC base, allowing you to confidently attach ropes or straps. The set is specifically useful for securing bow bags – many inflatable boats lack factory attachment points for a bow storage bag, but with these patches you can add them quickly and securely.
Size & Construction: The base of each patch is a circle 10 cm in diameter, made of reinforced PVC fabric. The D-rings are low-profile, about 2 cm in height (clearance), making them unobtrusive and safe to step on, yet large enough to thread a carabiner, strap, or rope. The thickness of the metal loop (around 4 mm) provides ample strength under tension – each D-ring can handle dynamic loads in marine conditions (such as gear shifting or bouncing in waves) without bending or detaching. The stainless steel won’t corrode, ensuring these tie-downs remain reliable over time.
Installation: Similar to other PVC accessories, these patches are installed by gluing:
- Choose locations on your boat’s tubes where you want the tie-down rings (e.g. four points around the bow area, or two at the bow and two at the stern to distribute gear). Lightly mark the outlines with a pencil.
- Clean the surface area and the back of the patches thoroughly. Apply PVC adhesive (2-part) as described for other patches – two coats, wait until tacky, then press on.
- Press each patch down firmly and evenly. When correctly applied, the edges of the PVC disc should lay flat with no lifted corners that could snag. Allow about 24 hours to cure.
After curing, test each D-ring by giving it a moderate tug – there should be no movement or peeling at the edges. Now you have four new tie-down points on your boat. Practical uses:
- Secure a bow bag: with two D-rings on either side of the bow, you can lash down a gear bag or anchor bag securely.
- String an elastic bungee cargo net between multiple rings to hold equipment, a fuel tank, or a spare battery in place.
- Use them as safety grab points – run a line through them for passengers to hold onto, or as an attachment for divers to hang onto the boat from the water.
Since the set includes 4 pieces, you have flexibility in how to use them. You can deploy all four in one area or spread them around the boat as needed. They significantly expand your options for organizing and securing items on your inflatable, making your outings more convenient and safe.
