This stainless steel connecting link is designed for scenarios requiring a permanent, durable chain connection in the anchoring system. Made from solid AISI 316 stainless steel, the link withstands continuous exposure to seawater without corroding – ideal for installing as a permanent connector between an anchor and chain or for extending chain on deck. Unlike galvanized links, a stainless link won’t lose its coating over time and maintains its appearance and strength.
The connector’s solid build, when properly matched to chain size, can pass through windlass gypsies and bow rollers smoothly without snagging. This makes it convenient to use as part of your everyday anchoring setup. Installation is straightforward – typically by aligning the two halves and securing them (via pin, bolt, or hammer-lock depending on the design). Once locked in place, the link provides near-equivalent strength to the rest of the chain.
Recommended Use:
- 6 mm chain: Suited for small boats (up to ~5–6 m) with 6 mm chain, offering a permanent stainless connection for an anchor or a quick repair/extension when needed.
- 8 mm chain: Recommended for mid-sized boats (6–9 m) using 8 mm chain. An excellent choice for replacing worn links or adding a stainless segment where higher resistance to rust is required.
- 10 mm chain: Ideal for larger vessels (9–11 m) with 10 mm chains. This link delivers the necessary strength and longevity for heavy anchors (~15–20 kg) and harsher conditions, where the reliability of every component is critical.
Whether used as a permanent fixture or kept on hand as a spare, the stainless connecting link will endure years of active service. It ensures your anchor remains firmly attached and your chain intact, with no weak links succumbing to rust. This boosts safety on every drop of the anchor and reduces the need to frequently replace components.
