This 304 stainless spring latch is designed to keep cabinets, lids, and other panels securely closed while still allowing easy opening when needed. The mechanism consists of a small spring-loaded catch that automatically snaps onto a strike plate or edge when the door is closed. The internal spring presses the catch down, so the latch remains locked in the closed position, without popping open due to vibrations or jostling – a valuable feature for use on a boat or in a moving vehicle.
It is made from 304-grade stainless steel, which means good resistance to corrosion and rust in most environments (including humid areas and below-deck on a boat). We offer the latch in two sizes: 30 mm length for smaller doors and panels, and 38 mm length for slightly larger or sturdier applications. Both sizes have an approximately 34 mm wide mounting base with screw holes, making it straightforward to attach directly to a solid surface. The design is low-profile – when mounted, the latch sits fairly flush and doesn’t protrude, reducing the chance of snagging.
Examples of use: On a boat, you might use this latch to secure a console glove box, small deck hatches to storage compartments, or the lid of an electrical panel – it will stay shut even in choppy waters. In an RV or vehicle, it’s great for cabinet doors and drawers that shouldn’t fly open while driving. It’s also suitable for wooden tool chests, cases, and any kind of lid where you want automatic locking. When opened, the spring holds the catch in a retracted position, so the lid can remain open without the latch parts getting in the way. The robust stainless construction ensures that even after repeated use and exposure to moisture, the latch will operate smoothly without rusting or sticking.
