The Y-shaped three-way valve, also known as a Y diverter valve, is a crucial component in marine plumbing and sanitation systems. This valve allows you to direct water or waste flow from a single inlet to two alternative outlets. The body, made of high-strength nylon, withstands seawater, fuels, and cleaning chemicals – it won’t rust or warp even after years of service. The bulkhead mounting design lets you install it securely through a panel: simply cut a hole at the desired location, fasten the valve with screws, and the handle will be accessible on one side for convenient operation.
Variants and use by size:
- Ø25 mm (1") Y-valve (03694-1): Suited for smaller boats (≈3–5 m) and systems with 25 mm hoses – for example, shower drain management or compact marine toilets. This size is often used to divert gray water (from sinks/showers) or to switch flow between two fresh water tanks on a small vessel.
- Ø38 mm (1½") Y-valve (03694-2): Designed for larger vessels (≈5 m and above) and the standard 38 mm hoses found in marine toilet waste systems and bilge pumps. For instance, on a 10 m sailboat, this valve lets you choose whether the toilet pumps to the holding tank or directly overboard (in compliance with regulations).
Features: The three-way mechanism provides full flow to the selected direction while sealing off the alternate route completely. The lever handle is ergonomic with distinct positions and can be secured (some installations allow adding a pin or lock to prevent accidental switching). Maintenance is minimal – with proper use, an occasional flush with fresh water will remove salt deposits. If needed, the internal assembly can be disassembled for cleaning or lubrication with silicone grease, which prolongs the life of the seals.
