Yamalube GL4 SAE90 gear oil is engineered to deliver reliable performance and long-lasting protection for your outboard engine’s lower unit. Developed, tested, and approved by Yamaha, this gear lubricant ensures optimal functionality under daily use and harsh marine conditions. Its SAE 90 viscosity with GL-4 additive chemistry provides balanced protection without the overly aggressive compounds found in some gear oils, making it gentle on sensitive components. The oil minimizes gear wear, prevents rust and deposit formation, even when your boat operates in saltwater or sits in damp storage. Using genuine Yamalube oil regularly helps your engine run quieter and smoother, while easing gear shifts and extending the life of the gearbox.
Use Cases & Recommendations:
- Designed for the gearcases of small to mid-sized outboard engines up to ~30–40 HP, both 2-stroke and 4-stroke, where API GL-4 gear oil is required. It delivers dependable protection for recreational boating and light commercial use.
- 250 ml bottle – perfect for a single gear oil change on compact outboards (e.g. portable engines 2–20 HP) or for occasional top-ups. This size typically suffices for one service on smaller outboards’ lower units.
- 1 L bottle – suited for servicing mid-range engines (e.g. 25–40 HP) or performing multiple oil changes. The larger volume offers better value and convenience, especially for owners or workshops maintaining multiple engines.
- Easy to apply using a standard gear oil pump or tube. Recommended service interval: change the gear oil at least once every boating season or every 50–100 engine hours (per manufacturer guidelines) to ensure maximum protection and performance.
- Note: Use Yamalube GL4 SAE90 only in applications where GL-4 specification is explicitly called for by the manufacturer. For higher-horsepower engines or gearcases without bronze components, Yamaha provides a GL5 gear oil (see our Yamalube GL5 SAE90 product). Always follow your engine manufacturer’s recommendations for the best results.
