The Finmax Speed Hard double block with two side-by-side sheaves is designed to increase mechanical advantage in your rigging, effectively cutting the effort in half when tensioning lines. By using a double block in conjunction with a single block (or a fixed point), you can create a 2:1, 4:1, etc., purchase system that significantly eases the handling of heavy sails or onboard loads.

This double block is available with two head configurations: fixed (code 04977) and swivel (code 04978). The fixed head provides greater stability and is preferred when the block needs to remain oriented in one direction (for example, attached to a specific point on a mast or baseplate). The swivel head features a pivot joint that allows the block to rotate 360°, following the direction of pull – useful when the block is attached to a moving part or when the pull angle may change.

Like all blocks in the Speed Hard lineup, the double block is built with a reinforced polyamide body and hard-wearing plastic sheaves. Although it doesn’t have ball bearings, it rotates smoothly thanks to precise engineering and low-friction bushings. The construction is resistant to UV rays and saltwater, ensuring long service life without compromise.

Variants & Uses:

  • Double Block (Fixed Head) – Small (code 04977): Length ~55 mm, width 40 mm, for 3–8 mm ropes; breaking load ~800 kg. Suitable for small sailboats and scenarios where block rotation isn’t required. For example, it can be mounted on a boom for a 2:1 mainsheet tackle on a dinghy or small keelboat, or used in a static system to tension a canvas or bimini top. Its compact size and light weight make it a favorite for racing boats, where every gram matters, yet it still provides substantial effort reduction when handling sails.
  • Double Block (Swivel Head) – Large (code 04978): Length ~78 mm, width 51 mm, for 6–12 mm ropes; breaking load ~1400 kg. Ideal for larger boats and heavier loads. Thanks to the swivel, this block is often used as the central component in a yacht’s mainsheet system (e.g., a 4:1 or 6:1 main sheet where the upper block is a double with swivel and the lower block is a single with becket). The swivel version also excels as a boom vang tackle or in systems for adjusting sail shape (outhaul, cunningham) on bigger sails. The large size and strength even allow use in lifting setups – for instance, hoisting an outboard engine or heavy equipment on board, where a 2:1 or 4:1 tackle makes the task safe and easy.

With the Finmax Speed Hard double block, you achieve efficiency and reliability. Whether you’re optimizing the mainsheet system on your yacht or setting up a simple lifting rig, these double blocks will withstand the stress and operate smoothly. The combination of options – fixed or swivel head – gives you flexibility in installation according to your specific needs. A double block provides a serious mechanical advantage, meaning less effort on your part and more precise control over your vessel’s rigging.
