Finmax Speed Hard Double Swivel Block with Becket (Fiddle Block)

Code:
04979

A specialized fiddle double block from the Finmax Speed Hard series – one sheave stacked above the other, with a swivel eye on top and a becket on the bottom. This configuration provides a compact tackle with great mechanical advantage. Available in two sizes: for 3-8 mm rope (small) or 6-12 mm rope (large).

  • Vertical Twin Sheave: Fiddle design – large and small sheaves in series for optimal line distribution in 2:1 or 4:1 systems.
  • Swivel + Becket: Swiveling head for self-alignment, and bottom becket to secure the rope’s end. Perfect for creating multi-purchase tackle setups.
  • Light but Strong: Reinforced polyamide construction, UV and corrosion resistant, handles loads up to 800/1400 kg depending on size.
  • Use Case: Ideal for adjustable systems – boom vangs, cunninghams, lift tackles – enabling easy hoisting/lowering of loads on small and mid-sized yachts.

The Finmax Speed Hard double swivel block with becket, also known as a fiddle block, combines two sheaves of different diameters in one compact unit. The upper sheave is typically larger and the lower one smaller, allowing the rope to run without overlap and optimizing the distribution of force. This design is often favored for applications such as boom vangs, gaff vangs, and other adjustable systems where significant mechanical advantage is needed in a confined space.

The block features a swivel attachment at the top, granting it freedom of movement and preventing rope twist as the load angle changes. The bottom becket serves as an anchor point for the rope’s dead-end – for example, in a 2:1 tackle, the tail of the rope is secured to the becket to close the loop. This means you can use this double block as the lower block in a tackle (using the becket), or as the upper block where the becket either remains unused or is utilized for another line.

The construction is the same robust makeup as other blocks in the Speed Hard series – a reinforced nylon composite body, extremely strong and lightweight, that won’t corrode and will retain its integrity under sun and salt exposure. The sheaves run smoothly on bushings and can withstand heavy dynamic loads (wind gusts, wave impacts) without damage.

Available Models & Usage:

  • Small fiddle block (code 04979): For 3–8 mm ropes; combined breaking load ~800 kg. Ideal for small boats and sport yachts. Commonly used as part of a boom vang on sailing dinghies and trailerable yachts (~4-6 m) for easy raising and lowering of the boom. It’s also suitable for outhaul systems or cunningham adjustments on smaller sails, where its compact size and low weight are an asset. The small Finmax fiddle block gives you significant control over sail shape adjustments without adding excess weight to the rig.
  • Large fiddle block (code 04980): For 6–12 mm ropes; combined breaking load ~1400 kg. Designed for mid-sized yachts (6-9 m) where higher loads are at play. A prime use is as part of the boom vang on keelboats – it enables the crew to easily control the downward tension on the boom and the sail’s shape even in strong winds. Additionally, the large fiddle block can be employed in 4:1 tackles for big genoas or jibs, as well as for hoisting heavy objects on board (engines, equipment) when a compact yet powerful lifting system is needed.

Finmax Speed Hard fiddle blocks provide a combination of compactness and power. Their design saves space on masts or booms while still delivering the mechanical advantage needed for fine-tuning. With these blocks, a smaller crew – or even a single sailor – can effortlessly tension or ease critical lines and halyards. Choosing this block means investing in an innovative solution that makes rigging work easier and boosts the performance of your sailing vessel.
