This reinforced trailer coupler with up to 800 kg capacity is an excellent choice for smaller trailers and boat trailers where safety and durability still matter. Despite the lower maximum load compared to heavy-duty models, its construction is solid and reliable. The coupler is made from quality steel with a galvanized coating, which protects against rust from rain, mud, and moisture. That means even if you leave the trailer outside in winter or use it to pull a boat out of water, the coupler will retain its functionality and won’t corrode quickly.

Mounting sizes: This model covers the two most common sizes on small trailers:

  • 50×50 mm square profile – typical for many small utility trailers (the “luggage trailer” type), light boat trailers up to ~4 m boats, or other compact setups.
  • 60×60 mm square profile – found on small to medium trailers, including some models of caravans, flatbed trailers, or jet-ski/boat trailers for slightly larger watercraft.

Choose the variant that matches the cross-section of your trailer’s drawbar to ensure proper installation. Both variants have the same functionality; the difference is only the width of the opening that fits around the trailer frame. Installation is done with two bolts (usually M12), and the coupler’s holes are positioned vertically one above the other. This vertical alignment (about 90 mm apart) is standard for couplers in this class – check if your trailer’s tongue has corresponding holes, or be prepared to drill holes if it doesn’t.

Interaction with the hitch ball: The front part of the coupler is designed for a 50 mm diameter hitch ball – the universal tow ball size for passenger vehicles. The clamping mechanism includes a spring-loaded lever: to hitch up, you lift or press the lever (depending on model), place the coupler onto the ball, then release the lever. It automatically clamps onto the ball via an internal jaw. You will hear or feel a “click” when it’s properly locked. The coupler has a hole for a safety pin – through this, you can insert a steel pin or a small padlock when the lever is in the closed position. This provides extra security, which is especially useful on long trips or when the trailer is left unattended, as it prevents the lever from being able to open.

Performance features:

  • The coupler withstands towing forces and vertical tongue weight (typically up to ~75 kg vertical load for this class, per specs), which is important as the trailer is loaded.
  • Reinforced design: “Reinforced” here means the design is improved over the lightest-duty models – it may have additional ribbing or thicker walls that prevent deformation at close to 800 kg loads.
  • Easy maintenance: The galvanized layer preserves the metal, but it’s recommended to grease the mechanical part of the locking lever periodically for smooth action and moisture protection. If you notice slight play after long use, some models allow fine adjustment or replacement of the internal clamp to compensate for wear.

Use case examples:

  • Small caravans and campers – many compact caravans fall under 800 kg and can safely use this coupler.
  • Cargo/utility trailers – typical single-axle trailers for hauling goods, building materials, or small equipment (often rated 500–750 kg) are well-served by this coupler.
  • Boats and jet-skis: Small motorboats (around 3–4 m) or jet-skis on trailers often have 50×50 or 60×60 frames and a total weight below 800 kg. The galvanized coupler is a plus when submerging in water.
  • Garden/farm trailers: Small tractor trailers or those towed by an ATV/UTV – as long as they have a standard 50 mm hitch – can use this coupler to connect to a car if needed, or vice versa.

With this reinforced galvanized coupler, you’ll have a stable and long-lasting solution for your trailer. Its compact size and universality (fits most passenger vehicles) make it a popular and dependable component. As with any hitch device, ensure the installation bolts are tightened securely and check the connection before each trip. Used correctly, the coupler will serve you for years, providing safety on the road when towing your cargo or equipment.
