The Honda BF20DK2 is a great choice for medium and larger rigid or inflatable boats! It has all the key features of its smaller siblings (like the BF15), while adding more power and enhanced capabilities. The BF20 is easy to transport, install, and remove from a boat, which is rare for an engine of this horsepower. Electric-start and remote-control models come equipped with a high-output alternator (12A) – the most powerful in this class – which provides full battery charging even at 2000 RPM. This is a huge benefit for maintaining battery charge and running electronics (navigation, lights, etc.) during long fishing trips or cruises. In terms of construction, the BF20 shares the 2-cylinder 350 cc engine with the BF15, but it is tuned to deliver 20 HP peak output around 5500 RPM. Thanks to the large displacement, this motor provides plenty of torque and rapid planing, even for heavier boats. Honda has proven this to be one of the most economical 4-stroke outboards in the world – fuel consumption is minimized via precise carburetion and optimized ignition timing. The BF20 features an electronic engine control unit that monitors all parameters, and a warning system for overheat, low oil, and over-rev conditions to protect the motor. A Power Tilt (electro-hydraulic lift) version is available for remote-control models (LRTU), which greatly eases tilt adjustments on heavier engines.
