This aluminum passerelle provides a secure and stable bridge between your boat and the shore. Constructed entirely of aluminum, it is lightweight (approximately 14 kg for the 2m version, ~16 kg for the 2.3m) and easy to handle for manual setup and removal. The aluminum is anodized or otherwise treated against corrosion, meaning the gangway will remain rust-free even with constant exposure to saltwater and air. The width of 37 cm is chosen to offer ample foot space without feeling narrow, yet not so wide as to be cumbersome to store on board.
The walking surface is anti-slip – it features a special non-skid coating or pattern (e.g., perforations or a gritty finish) that ensures good traction. This is especially important in wet conditions: rain or splashes won’t make the passerelle slippery. Even with bare feet or wet boat shoes, the decking provides secure footing at every step.
A notable feature of this gangway is the integrated wheels at the end that rests on the dock. These small rollers serve two purposes: first, they make it easier for you to position the passerelle – you can lean it against the dock edge and simply push, as the wheels smoothly roll up onto the dock. Second, when the boat moves slightly with waves or tide, the wheels allow the gangway to roll a bit on the dock rather than shifting or falling off. This way both the boat and the dock are protected from scratches or impacts.
Sizes & Weight: The passerelle comes in two sizes:
- 200 cm length (code 04393-1): Weight ~14 kg, suitable for boats whose stern doesn’t sit far from the dock. For example, if you frequently moor at low piers or your boat is around 20–26 feet, this length will serve well.
- 230 cm length (code 04393-2): Weight ~16 kg, providing extra reach for wider or taller stern configurations. If your boat is around 26–33 feet or you often encounter higher docks, the longer version gives a shallower boarding angle.
Both options share the same width (37 cm) and can handle the dynamic load of a person (~100-120 kg). That capacity is sufficient for normal use (one adult with a bag at a time). Installation is typically done by attaching a hinge plate on the boat’s stern. The package includes a metal bracket that mounts on the swim platform or transom – this bracket has an eye where the passerelle’s end is secured with a bolt/pin. This allows the passerelle to pivot up and down while maintaining a secure connection to the boat.
Once installed, usage is simple: you lower the passerelle onto the dock, and you can attach adjustable lines or chains (not included) to the outer end for additional stability (many yachts use two small lines from the end of the passerelle up to the aft cleats to hold it level). The wheels will rest on the dock and accommodate slight movement. When it’s time to depart, just lift the passerelle – its light weight makes this easy to do manually – and bring it aboard. You can store it along the railings, on deck, or in a storage compartment. Since it does not fold, consider its length when choosing a storage spot.
Practicality & Safety: Using an aluminum gangway greatly simplifies going ashore when moored stern-to (common in Mediterranean mooring). It offers a stable walkway for crew and guests, reducing the risk of slipping or falling into the water compared to improvised solutions. The gangway is sturdy enough to withstand daily use during the season, and its low weight means even one person can deploy or remove it if needed. Tip: when the passerelle is in place, always secure it – for example, with a line from the free end to the boat – so it won’t fall into the water if someone accidentally knocks it or in high winds. When stowing, wipe it down if it’s wet or salty to keep it in top condition for longer.
- 200 cm version: The shorter length is easier to stow on small boats. Ideal if you often dock in tight spaces or at low piers. Its lower weight makes handling it even more effortless.
- 230 cm version: The extra 30 cm can be crucial for higher docks or when your boat can’t get very close to the pier. Choosing this length provides a gentler boarding angle, which is more comfortable for older passengers and when carrying heavy items.
- Mounting notes: Ensure the hinge bracket on the stern is through-bolted to a strong structure (use large washers or a backing plate on the inside). The lower you mount the hinge towards the waterline, the flatter the gangway’s angle will be – ideally, the top of the gangway will be roughly flush with the aft deck level.
- During use: Always check that the wheels are properly contacting the dock and that there’s no gap where the gangway could slip off. If the dock edge is irregular, place a mat or board under the wheels. Avoid having more than one person on the passerelle at a time for maximum stability.
