This shore power inlet made of stainless steel combines an elegant appearance with exceptional durability for your boat. Designed to the established yacht power standard, it features three brass pins (2 poles + 1 ground) to provide single-phase 230V AC to your vessel. The cap and flange are constructed from polished AISI 316 stainless steel – highly resistant to saltwater corrosion and harsh weather, while also giving a sleek, premium look to your boat’s exterior. Under the lid lies a rubber gasket that prevents water ingress when the cap is closed. With no cable inserted and the cap shut, the inlet is effectively sealed against the elements (approximate rating IP56). When a cable is plugged in and the cap closes over the plug, the connection is shielded from spray and rain (typically IP55-IP56 protection).
16A vs 32A: The 16A version utilizes smaller pins and a smaller mounting hole (the standard size for most small boats), whereas the 32A version has larger pins and thus requires a slightly bigger cutout diameter. Both versions are compatible with widely available shore power cords – for example, the common blue 16A connectors (used for caravans and boats) or the larger 32A connectors found on some yachts and marina pedestals.
Installation: The inlet is installed by cutting a circular hole in the hull (per the specification – e.g., ~60 mm for 16A, ~70 mm for 32A) and securing the flange with screws. It’s recommended to apply a thin bead of marine sealant (such as Sikaflex) under the flange during installation to ensure a completely watertight seal. On the inside, wires are attached to screw terminals: live (hot), neutral, and a grounding stud, clearly labeled for correct hookup.
- Versatility: This inlet is a standard fitting on many yachts and boats. If your old shore power inlet is corroded or runs hot, replacing it with this stainless unit will enhance safety and appearance. It’s compatible with the electrical infrastructure of most marinas worldwide (230V, 50Hz systems).
- Safety: The inlet is engineered to meet marine safety standards – the housing is bonded to the ground, and its spring-loaded contacts maintain firm pressure on the plug pins to prevent arcing. When properly wired to your onboard circuit breaker and RCD/GFI, it provides a safe conduit for shore electricity into your vessel.
- Durability: The stainless steel construction and high-quality internal components translate to a long service life. This inlet will not rust or pit even after years of exposure, and the spring-loaded cap and gasket are built for frequent use.
- Aesthetics: The polished finish gives your boat a professional, finished look. It’s easy to maintain – you can clean and polish the stainless occasionally to keep it shining.
- Amperage & Application: Choose the 16A model if your boat uses the typical “caravan” size shore power with a 16A breaker – this usually covers boats up to about 30-35 feet with basic equipment. The 32A model is suited for larger vessels or if you have heavier power requirements on board (air conditioning, electric stove, etc.) – ensure your boat’s electrical system is equipped with appropriate breakers to handle the higher current accordingly.
