Sea-Line® SELF-POLISHING ANTIFOULING is a professional-grade, next-generation antifouling paint designed to shield your boat’s bottom from marine growth even at high speeds – up to 40 knots. It combines potent fouling protection with ease of use and is suitable for nearly all vessel types: sailing yachts, high-speed motorboats, fishing vessels, and more.

Key advantages and technology:

  • “Tin-free” rosin formula: Instead of toxic organotin compounds, this paint uses copper oxide and rosin (natural resin). This makes it modern and more environmentally friendly, compliant with current regulations, without compromising on antifouling efficacy.
  • Self-polishing effect: After application, the coating gradually dissolves/ablades under water flow and movement. This controlled wear continuously exposes a fresh biocide-rich layer, preventing marine organisms from establishing. The result is uniform protection – from the moment the boat is launched until the end of the season, with no abrupt drop in performance.
  • Fast drying & unlimited launch window: The paint dries for recoating in about 5 hours (at 20°C), and minimum launch time after the final coat is 12 hours. There’s no upper limit – once dry, the boat can remain on land for weeks or months before launch without degrading the paint’s effectiveness (an especially important feature of the white/light gray variant).
  • Easy application, no thinner needed: The product is one-component and ready to use – just stir well and apply. Roller (short nap) or brush is recommended. Stir periodically during application to keep the copper and biocide particles evenly distributed. Thinning is not recommended, as it may reduce the effectiveness and film thickness.
  • Broad surface compatibility: It can be applied on fiberglass (GRP), steel, and wooden hulls, provided they are properly primed (e.g., with Sea-Line epoxy primer or another anticorrosive primer) for best adhesion. The white/very light gray color is formulated to be safe on aluminum hulls, as it lacks metallic ingredients that could cause galvanic corrosion on aluminum.

Available colors and use-cases:

  • Black: A classic black antifouling, favored for an elegant look and maximum UV-resistant pigment. A popular choice for motor yachts and RIBs. Black absorbs sunlight, which can slightly accelerate the polishing action – a suitable trait for moderate and cold waters.
  • Dark Blue (Blue): A deep navy blue, complementing traditional yacht color schemes. Ideal for sailboats and classic vessels. It offers a stylish finish and performs excellently in saltwater areas with high fouling pressure.
  • Light Gray (near White): An extremely light color, practically white underwater. Recommended for aluminum hulls since it’s formulated without copper compounds. Additionally, the light color reflects sunlight – a plus in hot tropical climates where a cooler hull is beneficial. It has higher hiding power, helpful for covering old dark coatings or primer.
  • Red: A bright red antifouling for those who want easy visibility of fouling and wear areas. Often used on workboats and commercial vessels where quick visual inspection of the hull is important. The red pigment is durable and gives a distinct appearance – it stands out underwater and adds a stylish accent above water.

Pack sizes:
Offered in 0.75 L (small can) and 2.5 L (large can). The small size is sufficient for 1–2 coats on a smaller boat (up to ~5–6 m) or for touch-ups and partial applications. The large size is more economical for bigger vessels (8–12 m) or if applying two to three coats for full-season, heavy-duty protection. The theoretical coverage is ~8–9 m²/L per coat, so one 2.5 L can covers around 20 m² in one coat (typically enough for a ~10 m hull with one coat, or a ~5 m hull with 2–3 coats).

Application guidelines:

  1. Surface prep: Ensure the hull is clean, dry, and degreased. Remove any loose old antifouling paint (sanding or using a stripper if needed). Apply primer if required based on hull material (e.g., epoxy primer for bare fiberglass, etc.) for optimal adhesion.
  2. Stirring: Open the can and stir thoroughly until the mixture is homogeneous – especially important for antifouling paints, as the active ingredients can settle.
  3. Application: Use a roller or brush. Apply 1 to 3 coats depending on desired longevity – more coats yield a thicker film and longer protection (especially recommended for fast boats reaching 40 knots). Apply in temperatures above 5°C in dry conditions. Stir the paint occasionally during application to keep solids evenly suspended.
  4. Recoat interval: At ~20°C, wait at least 5 hours before applying the next coat, but no more than 7 days (if longer, a light scuff sanding is advised before recoating).
  5. Launching: Allow at least 12 hours after the final coat (longer in cooler temperatures) before launching. There’s no strict maximum time – once cured, the boat can stay on land until you’re ready to launch.
  6. Mid-season touch-up: If the boat is hauled out mid-season or you notice significant wear in high-abrasion areas during the season, you can apply an extra coat of antifouling on a washed and dried hull to extend protection. A short haul-out (up to 1 week) won’t impair the paint’s properties – no need for repainting after a brief dry dock.

Real-world results: Sea-Line Self-Polishing Antifouling has been proven in various waters – from the saline Black and Mediterranean Seas to freshwater lakes. Users report that after a full season, hulls remain significantly cleaner, with only a light slime that rinses off easily. High-speed boats (30–40 knots) particularly benefit – conventional hard antifouling can wear unevenly at such speeds, whereas Sea-Line’s self-eroding layer wears in a controlled manner, keeping the surface smooth and free of heavy growth. The result is higher maintained speed and lower fuel consumption, since the hull stays hydrodynamically clean. Moreover, with proper annual application, this antifouling prevents hard growth (barnacles, shells) from firmly attaching, which greatly eases the next cleaning and reduces the risk of osmotic problems on fiberglass hulls. In summary, Sea-Line’s up to 40-knot self-polishing antifouling offers professional-grade protection, user-friendly application, and confidence that your boat will remain fast and fouling-free all season long.
