The Marinco 32A/230V shore power plug is the standard solution for supplying electricity to boats and yachts with moderate power usage. It is widely used in Europe for connecting to shore power, and it is form-factor compatible with 50A/125V systems common in North America. This makes it a versatile choice for international vessels and cruisers. The design is two-pole (one live and one neutral conductor) with a third conductor for grounding – standard for 32A single-phase systems, ensuring safe power transfer to the vessel’s electrical circuits.
The plug’s body is exceptionally robust, made from Valox thermoplastic in a bright yellow color for high visibility. The glass-fiber reinforcement ensures the plug can withstand mechanical stresses (tugging, bending of the cable) and prolonged UV exposure and marine climate without cracking or degrading quickly. Built-in seals and the shape of the mating surfaces provide waterproof performance up to IP56 standards, allowing the plug to endure heavy rain and salt spray on deck. The metal contact components – the pins and their corresponding sockets – are brass with a nickel plating. This finish prevents the formation of the green patina (copper oxide) on the contacts and maintains low electrical resistance each time you connect to power.
Applications & Recommendations:
- Standard Shore Plug: Used to connect to a Marinco 32A inlet on your boat (available in stainless steel version – code 14.487.03, or plastic – code 14.634.30). Ensure your vessel’s inlet is of this standard for full compatibility and safe operation.
- Suitable for Vessels: Approximately 8–15 meter boats, sailing yachts, and cruisers that have onboard equipment such as battery chargers, refrigerators, water heaters, navigation electronics or a single air conditioning unit. A 32A supply (~7 kW) comfortably covers the needs of such vessels.
- Proper Use: When hooking up to dock power, plug into your boat’s inlet first, then into the dock outlet. When disconnecting – unplug from the dock first, then from the boat. This prevents any possibility of breaking the circuit under load or causing electrical arcing.
- Lock it In: Always twist and tighten the locking ring after plugging in. It ensures that if the cable is pulled or the boat shifts, the connection will not come apart. Even if the cord gets tugged or stepped on accidentally, the plug will remain firmly attached to the inlet.
- Storage & Care: When the plug is not in use, keep it covered with a protective cap (such as Marinco 14.103.02) – this will keep the interior dry and clean. Periodically inspect the O-ring on the locking collar and any rubber seals present; they should remain pliable and crack-free to maintain waterproof integrity.
