Quicksilver Oil Filter for Mercury 8–60 HP 4-Stroke (35-8M0162830)
The genuine Quicksilver 35-8M0162830 oil filter is intended for Mercury and Mariner’s smaller 4-stroke outboards, covering the range from 8 HP up to 60 HP. This includes the portable series (8–20 HP) as well as the popular 25-30 HP and 40-60 HP engines found on small fishing boats, inflatable RIBs, and auxiliary “kicker” motors on larger vessels. With this filter, your compact engine gets the same level of protection that Mercury provides for its larger models.
Quicksilver 8M0162830 incorporates all the key features of the bigger filters: an anti-drainback valve to hold oil in and prevent dry starts, a high-efficiency filtering media, and a tough canister. Small engines often run at high RPM and under heavy loads (for example, long runs at full throttle on a 9.9-15 HP, or pushing a boat onto plane with a 40-60 HP), which makes quality filtration especially important. This filter traps contaminants and protects components like the camshaft and pistons from excessive wear.
Changing the filter is quick – it’s easily accessible on the exterior of the engine. It’s recommended to replace it every 100 hours or annually, even for the smaller engines, since clean oil extends your motor’s life. As a Mercury OEM part, the filter fits perfectly and seals well, eliminating the risk of leaks. Using an OEM filter ensures that even during long storage periods (off-season layup) the oil won’t completely drain out – so at the first startup next season, your engine is safeguarded.

- Maintenance Tip: Make sure to change the oil along with the filter, using the Mercury-recommended oil (e.g., Quicksilver 10W-30 for small FourStrokes). This will ensure optimal lubrication and protect against internal rust, especially during long periods of non-use.
