This pad eye with ring is a versatile marine fitting that provides a strong tie-down or attachment point on your vessel. Made from cast 316 stainless steel, it is capable of withstanding long-term use in wet and salty conditions without losing integrity or appearance. The smooth polished finish not only looks professional but also prevents chafe on any lines attached to the ring.
The design features a solid plate with four fastening holes – this is significantly stronger than single-point attachments because it spreads the forces over a larger area. When the ring is under load (for example, tension from a strap or rope), the stress is transferred through the plate into four bolts, minimizing the risk of the fitting pulling out or bending.
The ring itself is a thick steel loop attached to the plate. It can lie flat against the base when not in use – this avoids tripping hazards or snagging, and keeps a low profile. When needed, the ring lifts up to form an eye for clipping a carabiner, attaching a shackle or strap hook, or running a line through directly. This mobility allows for pulling at various angles without deforming the fitting or ring.
Sizes & Recommended Use:
- 5 mm Thickness: Small pad eye, suitable for light loads. Use it to secure items like life jackets, light ropes, cargo nets, fenders or canvas covers. Excellent for smaller boats where a secure but not overly heavy-duty attachment is required. Can serve as a tie-down for a bimini top or storage cover
- 6 mm Thickness: Medium size, a general-purpose workhorse for a wide range of tasks. Great for tying down dock lines on mid-sized boats, lashing gear or equipment (coolers, dive gear) to the deck, or as anchor points for safety harness tethers (jacklines). This size provides reliable strength for most recreational vessels
- 8 mm Thickness: The large, heavy-duty version for the most demanding applications. Ideal for big yachts and workboats, where it may be used to secure very heavy loads – for instance, a dinghy on deck, locking down an outboard engine or generator, or attaching snatch blocks for rigging. Also suitable as a strongpoint for crew safety harnesses (lifeline anchor) or for towing. It offers maximum security with a high safety margin
- Installation: For all sizes, ensure there is adequate backing or use a backing plate underneath the mount to spread the load. Install with stainless steel bolts through all 4 holes and tighten evenly. Applying a bedding sealant under the plate will prevent water intrusion into the deck screw holes and add to the fitting’s longevity
