This bow platform (often called a “dolphin nose” platform) is a valuable accessory for any larger inflatable boat or RIB, enhancing the functionality of the bow. Measuring 46 x 34 cm, the platform provides a flat, rigid surface at the front of your boat. This facilitates a number of tasks: you can confidently step on the bow when disembarking or boarding from a dock or beach, stand securely while dropping or weighing anchor, and mount equipment (navigation light, rope roller, cleat, etc.) directly onto the platform.

The platform’s material is polyester fiberglass – the same material used in many boat hulls – which ensures high strength and resistance to the elements. The top surface is typically textured or treated with a non-skid finish, providing secure footing even when wet. The color is usually white or light grey to match common boat aesthetics and to reflect sunlight, reducing heat buildup.

Installation of the platform to the inflatable boat is done by gluing. The underside of the fiberglass part has a flexible PVC skirt/base. This base is meant to be bonded to the boat’s tube using the appropriate adhesive (for PVC fabric – a two-part polyurethane inflatable boat adhesive is used). The process requires thorough cleaning and sanding of both surfaces, application of glue to both, activation, and careful placement of the platform. Once properly glued and cured, the bond is extremely strong, and the platform effectively becomes an integral part of the boat.

Compatibility: This platform (code 04454) is designed for boats with PVC tubes. (For Hypalon boats, a different version with a Hypalon fabric base would be required – this particular model has a PVC base.) The 46x34 cm size is suitable for boats roughly 3 m and larger, especially RIB boats which have a rigid hull and often accommodate such upgrades.
Practical Use: Beyond serving as a step, the platform acts as a bow extension – it slightly lengthens the bow, which helps keep the anchor away from the inflatable tubes and protects the rubber fabric from chafing by the chain. You can install a small anchor roller on the front of the platform and also attach bow navigation lights (green/red) for better visibility.
Safety & Comfort: When getting on from the water or shore, the platform provides a broader, more stable area to step on instead of the slippery, rounded tube. This reduces the risk of slipping or falling, particularly when the bow is wet.
Maintenance: The fiberglass surface is easy to clean and UV-stable, but if needed over time, it can be repainted or polished. Periodically check the condition of the bond between the platform and the tube – a proper installation will last for years, but after extreme loads or impacts, it’s wise to ensure no edge is peeling. With normal use, the platform remains securely attached and functional for the long term.
