This marine heat-shrink cover film is specially designed for fully wrapping boats and yachts, providing maximum protection during outdoor winter storage or overland transport. The film is made of white polyethylene with a thickness of 0.2 mm (200 μm), which gives it excellent strength and puncture resistance. The white color has reflective properties – it prevents overheating under the cover and protects the covered surfaces from UV radiation. The material itself contains UV inhibitors, guaranteeing at least 12 months of UV resistance, meaning the film will not break down or weaken from sun exposure for at least one year (often longer in moderate climates). This is critical for long-term outdoor storage of your boat.
Usage & Sizes: Depending on the size of your boat, we supply rolls with different lay-flat widths of the film: 6 m, 8 m, 10 m, 12 m, 14 m, and 16 m. Each roll is 50 meters in length, which allows wrapping one or multiple boats. The film comes pre-folded (for example, the 6m width is folded accordion-style – known as “bellows fold” – for easier handling). The larger widths (8m and above) are multi-folded so that the roll is manageable to carry and deploy.
To wrap your boat: spread the film over the boat, leaving about 50 cm of excess material on all sides. Secure the edges with preliminary straps or ropes around the hull. Then, using a proper propane heat gun for shrink wrap, evenly heat the surface of the film. It will begin to shrink and tighten around the shape of the boat. Tuck and heat-seal (or tape) the excess material underneath the hull, creating a smooth skirt. After full shrinking, the boat will be enclosed in a taut, drum-tight plastic cover that won’t flap and will not allow water or dust ingress.
Benefits:
- Total coverage: Shrink wrap envelopes the entire hull, deck, and any superstructure like folded masts or consoles. This ensures your boat is protected from acid rain, snow, falling leaves, birds, as well as minor bumps or scratches. Under the film, a controlled environment is created, which prevents mold growth and grime buildup.
- Ventilation: (Recommendation) – when wrapping, you can install special ventilation air vents at a few locations to allow airflow and avoid condensation. Our shrink film is compatible with such accessories – they can be easily taped on and heat-shrunk in place.
- High strength: The 200-micron thickness and quality polyethylene mean the cover won’t tear due to wind or snow load. When properly shrunk, it withstands strong winds and the weight of snowfall. The wide rolls (14m, 16m) allow even large yachts to be wrapped in one piece without seams, minimizing weak points.
- Security during transport: If you are transporting your boat on a trailer or flatbed, shrink wrap keeps everything in place – hatches, cushions, loose equipment – nothing will blow out. The boat is aerodynamically bundled, reducing wind drag and vibration. Many professional hauling companies use this film for long-distance boat transports.
Note: This film is sold by the roll (by weight), and the specified dimensions (width, length) correspond to roll size and weight. When ordering, choose the width based on your boat’s beam plus its height (to cover from one bottom edge, over the top, to the opposite bottom edge). For example, an 8 m wide film is ideal for a boat with a beam ~2.5 m and a height from keel to deck of ~2 m. For very tall objects (e.g., yachts with a high cabin or flybridge), the 16 m width can encircle the entire circumference.
