This Quicksilver fuel filter kit is specifically made for classic MerCruiser inboard/sterndrive engines with mechanical fuel pumps. Over years of use, debris from the fuel tank or rust from metal components can accumulate in the small pump filter. This kit allows you to restore fuel flow by replacing the old filter element. It fits popular MerCruiser 4-cylinder engines like the 120hp (2.5L) and 140hp (3.0L) four-cylinders, as well as the larger 6-cylinder engines such as the 3.7L (known as the “470”) and the GM-based 3.8L/4.3L V6. The filter sits under the fuel pump’s downward-facing cap, where gasoline enters the carburetor – there it catches unwanted contaminants right at the entry to the fuel system.

With this kit, you get everything needed for the job: a new filter cartridge, a replacement spring to maintain pressure, and fresh gaskets to prevent leaks. Replacing the filter is simple – remove the fuel pump’s lower filter cap, take out the old filter and spring, and install the new components from the kit. It’s advisable to change this in-pump screen annually or around every 100 hours to prevent fuel starvation issues when running at high speeds. Regular maintenance will keep your engine running smoothly, especially at full throttle when fuel demand is greatest.

  • Ideal for owners of runabouts, cruisers, and ski boats powered by MerCruiser 4-cylinder or V6 engines who want to maintain maximum reliability and power during outings
  • Recommended replacement: Change this in-pump filter each year or ~100 hours – particularly important if your boat operates in dusty environments or if the fuel may contain impurities
  • Must-have kit for classic MerCruiser models from the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s with mechanical pumps – it helps restore factory fuel system performance easily and avoid potential issues
  • Choose genuine: The genuine Quicksilver kit ensures all components fit perfectly and withstand the harsh nature of gasoline, protecting your engine from future damage and preserving any applicable warranty coverage
