The Quicksilver 35-879885Q is a high-capacity fuel filter used across a wide range of Mercury outboards – from small EFI engines to the largest Verado models. Compatibility includes the entire lineup of supercharged Mercury Verados: 135, 150, 175 HP (inline-4, 1.7L), as well as 200, 225, 250, 275 HP (inline-6, 2.6L first-generation) – all from around 2005 onward. Notably, this filter also continues to be used on the Verado 300 HP (first-gen) and 300 HP Pro FourStroke (serials 0T801000 and up), meaning it effectively covers all Verado engines up to 300 HP. Besides the Verados, the 879885Q is found on standard 115 HP EFI four-strokes (the Yamaha-based models of the early 2000s) and even some 30 HP EFI engines (the same filter works in their fuel system).
This makes the filter something of a “one-size-fits-all” solution for Mercury’s EFI outboards – for example, if you own both a 150 HP Verado and a 115 HP FourStroke, both engines use this same filter, simplifying your maintenance. The filter features a sturdy plastic body and quick barb connections for the fuel hose. Its element is engineered for the high flow and pressure seen in fuel-rail systems. In fact, Honda uses an identical filter design on their BF135/BF150 outboards (part #16910-ZVL-003), indicating cross-brand interchangeability.
On Verado engines, which have extremely high injection pressures, this filter is the last line of defense before fuel reaches the injectors. It captures microscopic debris and water, protecting the costly components of the fuel system. Mercury recommends regular filter changes (e.g., annually or every 100 hours) especially on Verados to ensure consistent performance. The Quicksilver 879885Q supersedes earlier versions (879885T1, 879885K) with improved durability.
For boat owners, this means fewer headaches – one universal spare filter covers multiple engines. Replacement is straightforward, and the clear filter gives you confidence that your fuel is clean. With this OEM filter, your Mercury – whether it’s a small outboard or a Verado – will run at peak power and reliability with well-filtered fuel.
