Sea-Line® S07 Heavy Cut is a high-abrasion polishing compound designed for situations where ordinary polishes aren’t sufficient. It’s the “first step” in a polishing system – a powerful compound that quickly removes the upper damaged layer of a surface, eliminating scratches, chalking, and significant imperfections. It’s intended mainly for gelcoat surfaces (e.g., boat hulls, fiberglass products) and hard paint coatings where a strong cutting action is required.
Core properties:
- S07 contains coarse, specialized abrasive grains that provide very high cutting power (heavy cut). In practice, it can eliminate scratches left from roughly P800 grit sanding (on softer coatings) up to P1200 grit (on industrial gelcoat). This makes S07 ideal after wet sanding gelcoat or clearcoat during repairs (like fixing osmotic blister marks, mold imperfections, etc.).
- The formula is engineered to save time – its aggressiveness means you need fewer passes to achieve a uniform surface. The compound doesn’t dry out too quickly, allowing you to work a given area sufficiently without dusting up immediately.
- S07 is developed for professional use: including boat manufacturers and composite fabricators polishing molds and freshly cured gelcoat parts, as well as detailers restoring old, heavily oxidized gelcoat. In these applications, surfaces are very hard and require a strong compound – S07 excels exactly there.
- Not recommended for dark gelcoats or paints: Due to its aggressive nature, on dark blue, black, or other dark surfaces it may leave slight hazing or micro-swirls visible under light. Such finishes will require follow-up with finer steps.
- Easy cleanup: Despite its harsh cut, S07 is water-based and residue cleans off easily with a damp cloth, leaving no stubborn greasy films.
Recommended usage:
- Application: Use a rotary polisher with a hard or medium-hard pad (wool pad or stiff foam). Apply a moderate amount of S07 to the surface or pad. Work in sections about 50x50 cm.
- Polishing: Start at low RPM to spread (around 800–1000 RPM), then increase to about 1500–2000 RPM. Use stronger pressure initially to leverage the cut, then lighten up as the compound does its job. S07 will remove sanding marks and heavy oxidation. You’ll notice the surface becoming smooth, though it won’t be perfectly shiny yet – that’s normal after a heavy cut.
- Inspection: Wipe off the residue and inspect. All dull areas, sanding marks, or swirl traces should be gone. If some deep scratches remain, you can repeat S07 once more or decide if further sanding is needed.
- Next steps: To achieve high gloss, move to a medium/fine polish. Sea-Line S05 (Medium Cut) would be an appropriate second step to remove any haze and bring up shine, and Sea-Line S1 Premium could be a third step for a final mirror finish. S07 lays the groundwork, and finer compounds finish the job.
- Pad cleaning: S07 can accumulate removed material on the pad – clean the pad periodically (using a pad spur or compressed air) to maintain cutting efficiency.
Practical example: A yacht manufacturing shop has a gelcoat mold part with minor defects and roughness. After sanding with P1000, using S07 Heavy Cut with a wool pad quickly smoothens the surface, erasing the sanding scratches. Workers note that the initial polishing time is significantly reduced compared to using all-purpose compounds. In another case, a 10-year-old boat with a chalky, oxidized white gelcoat (dull from sun exposure) is treated with S07 to strip away the dead layer – after one session, the hull regains its original smoothness, ready for follow-up polishing and waxing. What S07 provides is aggressive yet controlled action: the ability to rapidly refresh severely weathered finishes without burning or damaging them, as long as you follow usage guidelines. For dark and delicate surfaces, always follow up with fine polishes, but for heavy restoration work, S07 is an indispensable helper, saving time and effort.
