Mercury F9.9 – 9.9HP FourStroke Outboard Engine (EFI)
The Mercury F9.9 offers nearly double-digit horsepower while retaining the convenience of portable outboards. At 9.9HP, this twin-cylinder FourStroke is ideal for boats where 10HP is a limit (such as due to registration or insurance rules). Thanks to Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI), the F9.9 starts effortlessly and runs efficiently. It weighs approximately 38–40 kg (depending on manual vs. electric start configuration), which keeps it manageable to install or remove when needed.
- Max Power in a Compact Package: The Mercury F9.9 provides strong thrust for boats around 4–4.5 m in length, while still being relatively compact. 9.9HP is often the engine of choice for larger fishing dinghies and small pontoons, where the balance of power and weight is critical.
- EFI and Electric Start Versions: The standard F9.9 comes with manual start and EFI. For added convenience, Mercury also offers models with electric start and remote controls (designated by suffixes like MH, EH, EL, etc.). EFI ensures reliable ignition and smooth power delivery whether you pull-start or turn a key. Electric-start models make running this engine even more effortless, especially if the engine is console-mounted on your boat.
- Command Thrust (CT) Option: Mercury produces a Command Thrust version of the F9.9 – essentially a “BigFoot” style gearcase with a larger prop. The CT variant provides extra thrust and better handling on heavier boats or platforms like pontoon boats. It’s great if you need more low-end pushing power without moving up to a heavier engine.
- Flexible Application: With 9.9HP you can comfortably carry multiple people and gear. This engine is suitable for slow trolling as well as quicker dashes to the next spot. The multiple configurations (short/long shaft, tiller/remote) mean the Mercury F9.9 can be tailored to your exact needs, whether it’s on a jon boat, sailboat, or as a kicker for a larger vessel.
- Fuel Efficient and Reliable: Mercury’s 2-cylinder 9.9 is built for durability. At 9.9HP, the engine isn’t heavily stressed, contributing to a long life and low fuel consumption. With only a few liters per hour fuel burn at cruising speeds, the F9.9 lets you boat all day without breaking the bank on gas.
