The Honda BF40DK4 is a light yet powerful mid-range outboard, ideal for aluminum boats, RIBs, fishing skiffs, and similar vessels. Featuring an inline 3-cylinder engine with Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI), this 40 HP motor stands out with easy starting, instant throttle response, and superior fuel efficiency. In fact, the BF40 is the lightest and most fuel-efficient engine in its class – engineered with an elegant design and optimized construction, making it a top choice for mounting on lightweight boats. Despite its low weight, the BF40 delivers solid torque and impressive acceleration, thanks to the innovative BLAST® system (Boosted Low Speed Torque) which enriches the fuel mixture and advances ignition timing during hard acceleration for a powerful holeshot. Additionally, the engine features Lean Burn Control (ECOmo), which at cruising speeds allows an extremely lean air-fuel mix, yielding up to 20% lower fuel consumption compared to competitor. The BF40DK4 comes standard with electric start, remote throttle/shift controls, and power trim and tilt, enabling you to easily adjust the engine angle from the helm. This ensures optimal speed and efficiency under varying loads and greatly eases boat handling. The alternator is rated at 22A (approx. 17A net charging) – an exceptionally high output for a 40 HP engine, which supports all onboard electrical systems and accessories. Like all larger Honda outboards, the BF40 has a full suite of protection indicators (overheat, low oil, over-rev), a triple cooling circuit to maintain even temperatures, and a 4-layer anti-corrosion coating suited for saltwater operation.
