Mercury F30 EFI is a 30HP four-stroke outboard that packs a lot of performance into a lightweight package. It is powered by a 526cc inline 3-cylinder engine – the same modular block used in Mercury’s 25HP, but in the F30 it’s tuned for higher output. This 3-cylinder configuration gives the F30 an inherently balanced operation, resulting in very low vibration levels compared to twin-cylinder motors. The EFI fuel injection eliminates the choke and automatically adjusts fuel flow, improving both convenience and fuel economy. You’ll notice the benefit especially on longer outings: the engine runs smoother and uses less fuel, so you can go further on a tank. Despite its capable power, the F30 remains one of the lightest 30HP outboards on the market, weighing roughly 70 kg in its lightest configuration (tiller manual) and around 78 kg for models with power tilt and remote controls – all achieved without sacrificing durability.
Acceleration on the Mercury F30 is snappy and confident. Thanks to its high torque in the mid-range, this engine is ideal for quickly getting a small boat on plane, even when you have a few passengers or gear on board. Standard features include electric start and power trim (PT) on most models, which simplify operation: you can start the engine effortlessly with a turn of the key, and adjust the motor’s trim angle at the push of a button to optimize performance at various speeds or water conditions. Mercury has also incorporated its exclusive multi-function tiller handle on manual-steer versions, which offers 180° steering rotation for excellent maneuverability in tight spots, along with shift, throttle, and stop controls all integrated for ease of use.
For heavier boats or specific applications, Mercury offers the F30 in a Command Thrust variant (sometimes marketed as “Big Tiller” or similar), which comes with a larger gearcase and propeller. This provides better authority and lift for heavy loads or for activities like watersports, giving the F30 an extra dose of muscle when needed. Additionally, Mercury’s “Quiet Deliverance” intake system and through-prop exhaust ensure the F30 runs quietly, making your boating more enjoyable and less tiring over a full day. Whether it’s being used on a family runabout, a small RIB for diving trips, or a commercial fishing boat, the Mercury F30 EFI guarantees hassle-free starting, steady running, and reliable power whenever you need it – all supported by Mercury’s extensive service network for peace of mind.
Use Cases & Recommendations:
– Excellent for medium-size inflatables and fiberglass boats (~4–5 m) needing a light yet powerful motor – F30’s low weight won’t weigh down the stern, but its power will enhance performance
– Ideal for quick runabouts and utility boats where sharp acceleration and easy handling are important (e.g., as a primary engine on a 4m tender or leisure craft)
– Well-suited for professional use such as small fishing vessels or work boats that require a balance of power and efficiency for daily operation
– Great for water sport towing on smaller scales (e.g., pulling a small tube or wakeboard) especially if equipped with the Command Thrust gearcase for extra prop grip
– Provides confidence for remote or extensive trips – EFI reliability and Mercury’s global service support mean you can rely on the F30 in various conditions and locales
