The Mercury F225 is the most powerful member of Mercury’s 3.4L V6 FourStroke family, which debuted in 2018. With 225 HP, this model delivers substantial power and acceleration while maintaining a more compact size and lower weight than traditional V6 engines in this class. The 24-valve, DOHC design and large displacement provide abundant torque across the rpm range – the Mercury F225 responds eagerly to throttle input, getting boats on plane effortlessly even under heavier loads.
The F225 runs exceptionally smooth and quiet. Mercury invested in special innovations to reduce noise and vibration, and as a result the V6 FourStroke engines are quieter than any competitor. Whether cruising or idling, you and your passengers can enjoy conversation and the surroundings without an overwhelming roar from the engine.
Like the other models in the series, the Mercury F225 features a convenient top cowl service door that makes engine checks and maintenance significantly easier. The integrated idle charge system and powerful 85A alternator ensure your boat’s electrical systems always have the energy they need – even at idle, the batteries get charged when necessary.
With a dry weight around 215–220 kg (depending on shaft length), the Mercury F225 is among the lightest 225HP engines available. Its narrow, compact V6 design allows installation on transoms with limited space or close engine spacing in multi-engine setups. The engine is built to withstand harsh conditions – featuring premium anti-corrosion coatings and durable components that ensure a long life even in saltwater environments.
The Mercury F225 is an excellent choice for boats roughly 7–9 meters in length. It delivers dependable power for a variety of vessels – from fast sport boats and day cruisers, to large fishing rigs and multi-purpose craft. If 200 HP isn’t quite enough for your needs and 250 HP would be too much, 225 HP hits the sweet spot. Additionally, twin F225s (2 x 225 HP for a total of 450 HP) can be mounted on boats designed for dual engines – a setup that provides serious performance for mid-size yachts and fishing boats. In summary, the Mercury F225 offers reliable V6 power, versatility, and efficiency – an engine proven over time and backed by Mercury’s innovation.
- Ideal for single-engine installation on boats ~7–9 m – offers an excellent balance of power and maneuverability for mid-sized vessels
- Can be twin-mounted (2 x 225 HP, totaling 450 HP) on larger boats – delivering high combined power for yachts and cruisers
- Excellent for sport boats, cruising craft, and RIBs where the punch of a V6 is desired in a compact form factor
- High reliability and efficiency – Mercury’s V6 platform ensures long-term performance, low fuel consumption, and easy maintenance
