The BF80 shares its proven platform with its bigger sibling (the BF100) – a 1.5-liter, inline four-cylinder engine with a single overhead camshaft and 16 valves. This configuration delivers ample torque in the low and mid RPM ranges, something you’ll appreciate when accelerating a loaded boat or towing watersport riders. At the same time, at higher revs the engine breathes easily and winds out to 6000 RPM, providing the top-end speed needed for quick travel or responsive handling during offshore fishing runs.

Honda’s smart technologies are embedded throughout the BF80. The BLAST™ system triggers during rapid throttle advances – the engine’s ECU momentarily tweaks the ignition timing and fuel mixture to squeeze out maximum torque. This literally “blasts” the boat forward, letting you plane faster and reach your target speed sooner. After the initial acceleration, once you settle into a cruise, the electronics switch to ECOmo (Economy Controlled Motor) mode – the fuel mixture is leaned out strategically to achieve optimal efficiency without sacrificing smooth running. As a result, the BF80 can reduce fuel consumption by up to 15% compared to previous-generation carbureted or simpler EFI engines in this class.
