Drain Plug with Base (Plastic) – 25mm

Code:
18.346.12

Standard boat drain plug with plastic base, designed for 25mm (1 inch) drain holes. The set includes a fixed flange base to mount on the transom or hull, and a removable plug that tightly seals the hole to prevent water ingress. Made of impact-resistant, UV-stable plastic, this drain assembly provides reliable drainage for your boat when needed.

  • Universal 25mm (1″) size – fits most small to mid-sized boats; industry-standard drain hole diameter
  • Plastic flange base – lightweight, durable base with 2 screw holes; will not corrode and insulates hull metal from water contact
  • Screw-in plug – plug twists in/out easily on threads, with a rubber O-ring for a watertight seal; captive design so it stays attached to the base when open
  • Easy installation – requires a 25mm drilled hole; mount with two screws (not included) and marine sealant around the flange
  • Safe drainage – allows quick emptying of accumulated water on land or at dock; ideal for draining after outings or heavy rain

This drain plug with base is a simple yet crucial accessory for any boat, allowing controlled draining of water from the hull. Commonly installed at the lowest point of the transom (stern) or boat’s bilge, it enables you to remove any accumulated or intruding water when the boat is on land or lifted out of the water.

Construction: The plug assembly consists of a flat flange base made of tough marine-grade plastic (nylon or polypropylene) that resists seawater, fuels, and UV radiation. The flange’s diameter is slightly larger than the 25mm hole, with two countersunk screw holes on either side for secure attachment to the hull. The plug itself is a small threaded stopper that screws into the base’s internal threads. As it tightens, it compresses an integrated rubber gasket (O-ring) against the base, creating a watertight seal.

Functionality: When the plug is screwed in (closed), the drain hole is hermetically sealed, preventing any outside water from entering the boat’s interior. This is especially important when launching the boat – the drain plug must always be closed before launch! Conversely, when the boat is on a trailer, slipway, or hoisted, unscrewing the plug allows gravity to drain out any water collected in the hull (rainwater, splashes, condensation, or leftover wash water). In this way, you can easily dry out the interior and prevent water from pooling, which could lead to mold or damage.

Installation: Installing the drain plug is relatively straightforward for anyone with basic DIY skills. You need a circular hole of Ø25 mm (if your boat doesn’t have one pre-cut – you’ll drill it at an appropriate location). Place the flange base so its screw holes align flat on the surface; it’s recommended to apply a bit of marine-grade silicone sealant under the flange before screwing down to ensure not a drop of water can seep around it. Fasten it with two stainless steel screws (the exact screw size depends on hull thickness, typically around #8 or #10 screws). Make sure the plug threads in and out smoothly but snugly – the O-ring should compress without gaps.

Practicality: This particular plug features a captive design – meaning the plug is threaded and remains attached to the base even when fully unscrewed. Typically there’s a little plastic keeper or retainer that prevents it from falling out and getting lost. This way, you won’t worry about dropping the plug in the drink or misplacing it on the dock. To close, you simply hand-tighten the plug; the large knurled grip or T-handle (depending on model) makes it easy to turn. No tools required, which is convenient because you’ll often be operating the plug right before launch or right after haul-out – times when speed matters.

This standard 25mm drain set is compatible with almost all boat manufacturers – the 1″ diameter is the de facto standard for transom drain plugs on runabouts, PWCs, RIBs, etc. Even if you’re replacing an old brass or metal plug, the plastic base has the advantage of insulating from metal hulls (if your hull is aluminum, for example), thus avoiding galvanic corrosion. Plus, plastic won’t rust or seize up. It’s recommended to periodically (at season start) inspect the plug’s O-ring – if it’s cracked or flattened, replace it to ensure a perfect seal. When the boat is stored, you can leave the plug out to ventilate the bilge.

In summary, this drain plug with base is a small but critical component for keeping your boat dry and safe. It gives you the convenience of quickly releasing unwanted water, and the confidence that when it’s closed – it will keep water out while you enjoy your time on the water.
