The Marinco 50A 125/250V shore power plug is engineered to meet the demands of larger vessels with high electrical loads. With this premium connector, you can hook up your boat or yacht to dockside power quickly, securely, and in compliance with marine standards. It features a three-pole configuration (two hot legs and one neutral) plus a ground (4 wires total), enabling it to carry both single-phase 125V and dual-phase 250V power as required by 50-amp shore power systems.
The plug’s housing is made of a special reinforced thermoplastic (e.g., Valox) with glass fiber reinforcement, providing exceptional durability and resistance to impact, UV exposure, and extreme temperatures. Built-in gaskets and a threaded locking mechanism ensure a watertight connection between the plug and your boat’s inlet. The plug achieves an IP56 ingress protection rating, shielding the electrical contacts from salt spray, rain, and moisture during use. The contact components – heavy-duty brass pins and sockets – are nickel-plated to prevent oxidation and to maintain a reliable electrical connection even after many mating cycles in a salt-laden atmosphere.
Usage & Recommendations:
- Compatibility: This plug is designed to mate with the shore power inlet on your boat (Marinco 50A inlet, code 14.487.01, available in stainless steel or plastic versions). For a complete shore power system, you need both a boat inlet installed on your vessel and this cord-end plug attached to your shore power cable.
- Ideal for: Large motor yachts, catamarans, and other vessels equipped with high-demand systems – e.g. multiple air conditioners, electric stoves/ovens, high-capacity battery chargers, laundry machines, etc. A 50A 125/250V system can power numerous devices simultaneously without voltage drop.
- Safe Operation: Always connect the plug to your boat’s inlet first, then plug the cord into the dock pedestal. Conversely, when disconnecting, unplug from the dock source first, then from the boat. Following this practice avoids breaking a heavy load under power and protects onboard electronics from surges.
- Maintenance: Periodically inspect and clean the plug’s pins and interior. Use a soft brush and electrical contact cleaner to remove any salt deposits. Apply a thin layer of dielectric grease on the pins if needed to fend off corrosion and ensure smooth plugging action.
- Extra Protection: When the plug is not in use (for instance, when the cord is stowed), it’s advisable to use a protective cap. Marinco offers a fully watertight plug cover (code 14.103.02, fits 32–63A plugs) that you can place over the end to keep water and dust out. This will further extend the connector’s lifespan and reliability.
