The Raymarine i40 Depth is an essential safety instrument for small boats, providing real-time accurate depth information and alarms that keep you aware of what’s beneath your hull. The display, though small, features distinctly large digits showing the depth under the keel in your chosen units (meters, feet, or fathoms). You can set a shallow alarm to warn you when depth decreases to a dangerous level ahead of the boat, as well as an anchor alarm – if your boat drifts or the water level changes while anchored, an alert will sound. The instrument automatically logs the shallowest depth encountered during your trip, so after your journey you know the minimum depth of your route. With its extremely low power draw, the i40 Depth is suited for boats with limited electrical systems or those using solar panels. The unit easily interfaces with the traditional SeaTalk network, meaning it can work in tandem with older Raymarine devices or feed data to repeater displays. Using an optional SeaTalk-to-SeaTalkng converter, it can also integrate into modern NMEA2000 setups. For its small size, the i40 Depth greatly increases confidence when navigating unfamiliar or shallow waters by giving the skipper timely information to avoid running aground or other surprises.
- A great choice for small yachts, fishing boats, tenders, and other vessels up to ~25–30 ft, where having a dedicated depth sounder ensures safe navigation
- Invaluable when cruising through shoals, channels, or lakes – immediately alerts you if you’re getting too shallow
- Often used as part of an economical instrument set (alongside i40 Speed and/or i40 Wind) to provide basic navigation info at an affordable price point
- Installation is straightforward and DIY-friendly – the depth transducer can be transom-mounted or through-hull; a depth offset calibration feature is available (to display depth below the keel), useful for small sailboats with varying draft
