The Raymarine Quantum Q24W sets a new benchmark for compact marine radar, combining innovations like CHIRP pulse compression and wireless connectivity into a unit just 18 inches in diameter. Designed with easy integration in mind, the Quantum Q24W is exceptionally light – around 5.6 kg – roughly 50% lighter than equivalent older magnetron radars. This makes it ideal for sailing yachts (where reducing mast weight is crucial) and for powerboats where low power draw is important during battery-only operation.
Easy installation: A hallmark of the Q24W is its built-in Wi-Fi connectivity. Instead of the traditional thick data cable, this radome only needs to be connected to power – the included 10 m power cable provides power, and radar data is transmitted wirelessly to a compatible Raymarine multi-function display. Not only does this simplify initial setup (no need to run data cables through tight conduits), but it also makes upgrading from an old radar easier – Raymarine offers an optional adapter cable to let Quantum use existing cabling if you’re replacing an older unit. The bolt pattern for mounting is also the same as previous Raymarine radars, meaning you can often place the Quantum right where its predecessor sat, with no additional holes or modifications.
CHIRP performance: Despite its small size, the Quantum Q24W is a solid-state CHIRP radar transmitting at 20W peak power. Thanks to pulse compression, much more energy reaches each target than with a traditional radar, resulting in noticeably clearer long-range images. The minimum range of about 18 feet (5.5 m) means the radar can distinguish objects practically at the bow of your boat – a valuable capability when maneuvering in a marina or among very tight obstacles. At the same time, Quantum provides a standard maximum range of 24 nm, which is sufficient for most needs on coastal and offshore trips with small to mid-sized vessels.
Superior target resolution: Quantum employs FLIR’s exclusive ATX™ (Advanced Target Separation) technology to enhance target resolution. In practice, this means objects like boats, navigation buoys, rocks, and even weather cells are displayed with unparalleled clarity and won’t blur into a single blob. Small and weak targets that a traditional 2kW or 4kW radar might miss or smear into background noise, Quantum reliably identifies – for example, you’ll see individual small craft next to a large ship, or the thin outline of a squall line behind a shoreline, where another radar might show a fuzzy merge.
Low power and safe emissions: Built with energy efficiency in focus, Quantum draws only about 17 W in transmit and just 7 W in standby. In a special “sleep” mode (when connected via Wi-Fi and not actively transmitting), consumption drops to ~2 W, which is perfect for extending battery life while sailing. The low emitted power and modern broadband technology also mean safer emissions – there’s no high-voltage magnetron, and the radiation output is similar to that of a Wi-Fi device or cellphone. This makes Quantum suitable for mounting almost anywhere on board (still ideally as high as possible for range) without significant safety concerns. The radome carries an IPX6 waterproof rating, so it withstands heavy seas and spray, and it’s engineered for reliable operation in the marine environment.
Ideal for smaller vessels: Quantum Q24W is targeted at sailors, anglers, and small-boat captains who want collision avoidance and navigation support in reduced visibility. The light weight means less heeling and mast compression for sailing yachts, and the low power usage means you can run the radar longer, even when under sail without the engine. With its 24 nm range, a 30-foot cruiser, for instance, can spot an incoming squall or coastline hours ahead, track unlit navigation markers and other vessels at night or in fog, and even get a sense of rain cells around the route. The wireless link between Quantum and the display makes it possible to install the radome in hard-to-wire locations – for example, on a mast mount – without threading long data cables through the boat.
With the Raymarine Quantum Q24W, you gain a modern radar system in a compact and user-friendly form. This radome will significantly enhance your safety and confidence on the water – providing you a clear eye that cuts through darkness, fog, and rain, without the complexity or weight of older systems.
