The Raymarine RD418HD (T70168) is an 18″, 4 kW HD Digital radome scanner packaged with a 10 m interconnect cable, making it a convenient kit for new radar installations. Despite its smaller size, this HD radar brings robust performance, including a 48 nm range and the same advanced digital processing found in larger radars. It’s particularly suited for smaller powerboats and sailing yachts that need a powerful radar in a compact form. With the included 10m cable, you can easily hook it up to your Raymarine network and immediately start benefiting from its sharp, colorful radar imagery.

  • Recommended Use: Perfect for vessels roughly 6–12 m (20–40 ft) in length – such as mid-sized cruisers, center-console fishing boats, and cruising sailboats – where a compact radar is desired for space and weight considerations. The RD418HD’s 18″ radome is easier to fit on radar arches, masts, or hardtops with limited space. With the included 10 m cable, it accommodates typical flybridge-to-main-helm or mast-to-nav station distances found in boats of this size.
  • High-Definition Radar Imaging: Don’t let the smaller dome size fool you – the RD418HD leverages Raymarine’s HD Digital technology to deliver a clear and detailed radar picture. Its 4.9° horizontal beam can differentiate targets well at moderate ranges. Close range performance is superb, thanks to the adaptive receiver which automatically fine-tunes the radar to pick out small targets in clutter. The unit displays a rich 256-color radar image on your Raymarine MFD, meaning you can distinguish the intensity of contacts (strong reflections vs. weak) easily – useful for telling a rain squall from land or a cluster of small boats from a large ship.
  • All-Weather, Automatic Operation: Changing sea or weather conditions are no problem, as the RD418HD’s automatic modes adjust transmitter and receiver settings on the fly. In harbor mode, it will dial down the sea clutter and tune for short-range detail so you can spot kayakers or pilings. Switch to offshore mode, and it intelligently enhances long-range returns to detect distant vessels or squalls. Bird mode, as with the larger model, helps find sea birds to locate fish. These features make the radar very user-friendly – you can largely “set it and forget it,” knowing it will adapt as needed. Manual controls are available for those who want to customize the picture.
  • Safety Features: Even on smaller boats, collision avoidance is critical. The RD418HD supports MARPA target tracking (with an appropriate heading sensor input) for up to 10 targets, giving you a mini-ARPA capability to track nearby vessels’ movements. This is invaluable when navigating busy channels or limited visibility – you can get visual confirmation of which targets are on a collision course. The radome’s ability to spin at 48 RPM in close-range mode means your screen updates at twice the normal rate, providing real-time awareness of fast-moving or crossing targets. Combined with AIS overlay (if you have an AIS receiver), you’ll have a comprehensive view of traffic around you.
  • Installation & Integration: This package’s included 10 m RayNet cable simplifies setup – simply mount the radome, run the cable to your Raymarine multifunction display or hub, and plug it in. The radome draws about 60 W in transmit (25 W standby), which is manageable on most small vessels’ electrical systems. It interfaces via Ethernet, meaning it can network seamlessly with modern Raymarine displays (Axiom series, etc.) as well as older ones that accept SeaTalkHS/RayNet input. Once connected, you can use features like radar overlay on charts, dual-range (if you later add another radar or using two ranges via one scanner on Axiom Pro), and the radar will cooperate with other systems like AIS and even thermal cameras. The RD418HD’s small footprint, low profile, and reliable HD performance make it one of the best choices for bringing big-radar capabilities to smaller boats.
