The Raymarine RD418HD (E92142) is the radome-only version of the 18" 4 kW HD Digital radar, provided without a cable so you can tailor the setup to your needs. This is an excellent option if you are upgrading from an older Raymarine radar – you might reuse an existing cable run (with appropriate adapters) or select a new cable length that perfectly fits your boat. The RD418HD brings all the benefits of Raymarine’s HD digital radar technology to a compact 18″ dome: impressive target detail, coastal to offshore range, and intelligent features that simplify operation.

  • Recommended Use: Great for boat owners performing a refit or upgrade – for example, replacing an analog Raymarine radome (like RD218 or RD424) with this modern HD unit to get a significant performance boost. Also suitable for custom new installations where you want to choose a specific cable length (5m, 10m, 15m, etc.) depending on your vessel’s layout. Vessels up to ~12 m (40 ft) will find this 18″ radome sufficient for navigation and safety, providing a balance of range and resolution in a smaller package.
  • Upgrade to HD Performance: By going with the RD418HD, you gain a 256-color radar display that makes it easier to interpret what you see on screen – different colors represent different echo strengths, so you can tell apart strong land reflections, weather, and weaker small targets. This is a step up from older 2kW/4kW analog radomes that had less differentiation. The adaptive digital receiver means the radar is constantly optimizing the picture, reducing sea clutter and noise automatically. For anyone used to adjusting gain and tune frequently on older units, the hands-off clarity of the HD radar will be a welcome change.
  • Flexible Cable Options: Since no cable is bundled, you can select a Raymarine digital radar cable that best suits your needs. Common options are 5m for pedestal mounts, 10m for flybridge boats, or 15m+ for larger sailboats – giving you flexibility that a fixed package might not. If you already have a compatible Raymarine digital radar cable in place from a previous installation, the RD418HD can plug right in (RayNet connector). If you have an older analog cable in the mast, Raymarine provides adapter solutions (like the A80272 adapter) to use the existing wiring with the new digital radome, making the upgrade easier without rerunning cables.
  • Full Feature Set: Once installed and connected to your Raymarine MFD, the RD418HD offers the same feature set as the cable-included version: automatic sensitivity modes, dual-range capability, fast scanning at short ranges, and MARPA/AIS integration for tracking other vessels. It’s essentially the same radar engine – just provided à la carte. You can overlay the radar image onto your electronic charts for an intuitive navigation view (particularly useful if you’ve got the heading sensor connected for MARPA). This radar also supports combining with another radar on the network if you ever choose (e.g., one on an upper mast and one on a lower hardtop), giving you redundancy or a dedicated long and short range radar – a scenario some larger yachts consider.
  • Seamless Integration: The RD418HD radome is compatible with Raymarine’s network and integrates with displays running LightHouse II, LightHouse 3 (Axiom series), as well as older G-Series, E-Widescreen, C-Widescreen, and even classic E/C Series (with the appropriate interface). This backward compatibility means upgrading to this HD radome can breathe new life into older navigation systems, granting them improved radar resolution and features without a full electronics refit. Overall, the RD418HD (E92142) gives you a powerful radar sensor in a small form, with the freedom to customize your cabling solution – a cost-effective way to achieve superior radar performance on your vessel.
