- This P79 model (Part # E66008) is intended for connection to Raymarine’s digital sonar modules (ClearPulse DSM series and CP series). It operates at two frequencies – 50 kHz and 200 kHz – providing depth measurement only (no temp sensor) with up to 600 W of power.
- The transducer is installed inside the boat without any hull penetration: its mounting flange is epoxied to the hull’s interior (fiberglass). Once the epoxy cures, the active transducer element is placed inside the flange and the void is filled with a non-freezing fluid (e.g., propylene glycol), which allows the sonar pulses to travel effectively through the hull.
- The P79 is adjustable to compensate for hull angle (supports deadrise from 2° to 22°). This means it can be used on V-hull boats as well – by rotating the mounting cup, the internal sensor is leveled to vertical. The result is an optimized signal because the beam points straight down at the bottom for maximum echo strength.
- The dual-frequency operation provides flexibility in sounding: at 200 kHz (high frequency) the transducer produces a narrower beam (~12°) with high resolution – excellent for detailed imaging in shallow waters and identifying fish and structure. At 50 kHz (low frequency) the beam is wider (~45°) and penetrates much deeper (effective to around 300-350 m depending on conditions), albeit with lower detail.
- With its 8-pin “DSM style” connector, the P79 hooks up directly to Raymarine CP370 and CP300 sonar modules, as well as older DSM30/DSM300 units. This in-hull transducer is highly valued by anglers who want 600 W of power without drilling their boat’s hull. Because there is no external component, noise while underway is minimized and the bottom remains clearly visible on the sounder even at speeds over 30 knots.
