The SF-BS6 is a plastic cap designed to plug and cover unused rocker switch openings in modular panels. If you have a modular panel system where one of the switch spots is empty (for example, you planned a spare for a future switch or you temporarily removed a switch), this cover snaps into that spot to conceal the opening. It’s often referred to as a “blank insert” or simply a panel plug.
Easy to Use: The SF-BS6 cover is designed to have the same shape and dimensions as the face of a rocker switch. Installation is extremely simple – push it into the opening and it snaps into place, just like a switch would snap in. No tools or screws are required to secure it. Its four retention prongs on the back hold it firmly to the panel. When you later decide to install an actual switch in that position, the cover can be easily removed. The manufacturer offers a special SF-BS7 removal tool for quick extraction (essentially a thin plastic pry tool), but in most cases a small flat screwdriver can also be used carefully to pop the cover out without damaging the panel.
Protection & Prevention: Empty dashboard openings can cause problems – they can allow water, salt spray, dust, sand, or small objects to get inside the console or behind the dash. This poses a risk to your electronics and wiring – moisture and salt can lead to corrosion or short circuits, and dust can foul contacts or gauges. The SF-BS6 effectively seals these openings, protecting the interior. The cover fits snugly with no gaps for unwanted materials to sneak through. On marine vessels where dashboards are often exposed to splashes, this is an important safety measure.
Aesthetic Benefits: Besides its functional role, the cover improves aesthetics. An empty hole on the dash can look like a missing tooth – unsightly and drawing attention. With a blank insert in place, the panel looks uniform and complete again. For example, if you have a panel with 5 switch slots but only 4 switches in use, putting an SF-BS6 in the fifth slot makes it appear as if it’s fully occupied – to an observer, there’s no obvious blank space. This is especially useful if you want to leave spare positions for future expansions – your boat’s console will look fully equipped until the time comes to install the new features.
Compatibility: SF-BS6 is made for the Sunfine modular series (compatible with SF-BS1 end and BS2 middle panels). It fits exactly into the opening where a Sunfine or standard Carling rocker switch would sit. The plastic’s color and texture match the panel pieces – a matte black (or dark) finish – so visually the cover blends in with the surrounding frame. You won’t notice a difference between the blank insert’s material and that of the end/middle panel. It’s also UV-stable and not prone to cracking – the ABS plastic stands up to sunlight and temperature changes.
Flexibility for Upgrades: A big advantage of the cover is that it gives you flexibility for upgrades. You can build a panel with more switch positions than you currently need and cover the extras with blanks. When you add new equipment later (say an extra light or accessory), you simply pop out the cover and install the new switch – the spot is already prepared. This saves you from having to cut new holes or replace an entire panel.
In short, the SF-BS6 is a small detail that provides both professionalism and protection. It keeps your dashboard looking tidy and future-ready, by safeguarding what’s empty now but ready for a new switch when you are.
