This bi-color 225° navigation light combines the function of two separate side lights – a red port light and a green starboard light – into a single housing. Each color covers an arc of 112.5°, and together they provide the full 225° forward coverage (from straight ahead to 22.5° abaft the beam on each side). This solution is especially convenient for small boats and yachts where bow space is limited or a simplified installation is preferred, using one fixture instead of two separate ones.
The light’s housing is white and made of highly durable plastic, capable of withstanding impacts, vibration, and UV exposure (it won’t crack or discolor in the sun). The two sectors – red and green – are divided inside the housing by a partition and have their own optical lenses, ensuring each color shines in the correct arc without overlapping. The assembly is fully waterproof, so rain and sea spray won’t interfere with its operation.
This bi-color light is designed and certified according to COLREG72 and carries RINA approval for vessels up to 12 m. This means that as a combined bow light it meets all the legal standards – the red and green sectors are clearly distinguishable and each is visible at a minimum of 1 NM. In practice, this single bi-color lamp fulfills the role of standard side lights but with one less fixture to install. It simplifies wiring (only one connection point) and eliminates the need to mount two separate units on either side of the boat symmetrically.
Installation is done at the bow or forward part of the boat (often on the bow rail or pulpit). Only two screws are required for the vertical mounting. Thanks to its compact size, the lamp can be easily placed even on small foredecks or bow areas – for example, on the pulpit rail or the cabin top at the bow. All necessary mounting hardware is included, and electrical hookup is simply connecting the two wires into your 12V system. The light comes with a 12V/5W halogen bulb installed, which illuminates both the red and green sections simultaneously. This bulb provides sufficient brightness while being energy-efficient – important for small boats with limited battery capacity. If needed, you can replace it with a dual-contact LED bulb designed for bi-color lights (note: the LED replacement must meet brightness and color requirements).
Recommended use: the bi-color 225° light is perfect for small powerboats, fishing vessels, dinghies with motors, and sailing yachts that do not have the space or preference for installing separate green and red lights. It is typically mounted on the centerline at the bow – on the deck or bow rail – to ensure optimal visibility. Use this light to comply with navigation rules and be confident that your boat is clearly seen from the front. For a complete navigation light setup, combine the bi-color lamp with a white 135° stern light and, if the boat is engine-powered, a white 225° masthead (steaming) light on a mast or roof.
- Combines two navigation sectors in one device – an excellent solution for boats with limited space or a minimalist setup
- Provides the required red/green forward signals without needing two separate lamps – less drilling and wiring on your vessel
- Improves the visibility of a small craft: clearly indicates both sides (red for port, green for starboard) to approaching vessels
- Reduces power consumption and battery load – only one 5W bulb instead of two separate bulbs
- Convenient maintenance: one lamp to check and one bulb to replace, rather than double the components with separate lights
