This stainless steel concave base is engineered to enable mounting a bimini or awning onto curved or cylindrical surfaces on your boat – something standard flat bases cannot do effectively. The concave shape of the base allows it to hug round surfaces (like rails or tubes), ensuring a solid, wobble-free attachment. This is extremely useful for securing a canopy to side railings, arch bars, or even the inflatable tubes of an RIB (with proper adaptation), where a flat base would not sit flush. The unit is made from mirror-polished AISI 316 stainless steel, providing excellent durability against saltwater and UV exposure for long-term, rust-free performance. It comes equipped with a spring-loaded locking pin (“drop-nose” style) that automatically locks into place once inserted through the frame’s eye – keeping your canopy frame securely pinned. When you want to remove or fold the canopy, simply release the spring pin to free the frame in seconds.
- Rail or Tube Mounting: Perfect for situations where your bimini top needs to attach to a tubular structure – for example, mounting a canopy to a sailboat’s pushpit/guardrail, or to a wakeboard tower or radar arch on a powerboat. The concave base prevents slipping and self-aligns on the tube, maintaining a rock-steady grip even under motion.
- Use on Inflatable Boats: While this base itself is solid metal (without a glue-on pad), it can be utilized on rigid parts of RIBs or inflatable boats – such as a fiberglass console/rail or an aluminum tube framework. (For directly gluing to an inflatable tube, see our dedicated inflatable boat base.) However, this concave bracket can also be through-bolted onto a pre-installed round patch on an inflatable tube, providing a firm anchor point for a canopy on a dinghy. Its curved profile will match such mounting pads or plates.
- Versatility: Being compatible with Ø20, 22, and 25 mm tubing means you can use this base across different canopy systems – from smaller biminis on boats under 5 m (often using 20–22 mm frames) to larger yacht sunroofs (25 mm frames). This flexibility makes it an excellent choice for upgrades or replacements, as it will fit the pipe size you have without modifications.
- Reliability: Once secured with appropriate screws/bolts to your boat, this base provides a very secure connection. The spring pin ensures the frame cannot come loose on its own, even in heavy seas. The open, robust design means it’s easy to rinse off salt and debris – no tiny internal springs to worry about. When you need to take down the canopy (for trailering, heavy weather, or off-season storage), just pull the drop-nose pin and the frame is free instantly. Reassembly is just as quick – slot the frame back in and push the pin to lock.
