This canopy base provides a dependable anchor point for attaching a folding sunshade (bimini top) to your inflatable boat. The socket diameter is 22 mm, which is the standard size for most canopy frames and support poles. That means any Ø22 mm aluminum or stainless tubing from your canopy will fit snugly into the base, allowing for quick attachment and removal of the canopy, while the base remains permanently glued to the boat’s tube.
Dimensions & Material: The PVC pad measures approximately 10 x 7 cm (oval shape) with a height of about 2 cm. The broad surface area offers plenty of bonding space – critical for withstanding the pulling forces of wind on the canopy. The base is made from flexible, reinforced PVC that conforms to the curve of the tube and absorbs vibration and stress without peeling off. Two color options are available: light grey and black. Grey is commonly used on most PVC inflatables, whereas black may be chosen for darker boats (also PVC material) or to match Hypalon boats if compatible.
Installation: Installation requires a suitable PVC adhesive (two-part type is recommended). Steps for a successful bond:
- Preparation: Clean the area on the tube and the underside of the base with a degreaser (e.g. isopropyl alcohol). Mark the location – typically you’ll install 2 bases on each side of the boat, symmetrically positioned to accept the canopy’s support legs.
- Apply Adhesive: Mix the adhesive as instructed. Apply a thin, even coat to both the boat surface and the bottom of the base. Let it dry until tack-free (about 5–10 minutes), then apply a second thin coat.
- Mounting: When the glue is tacky to touch, carefully place the base at the marked spot. Press down firmly from the center outward to eliminate air bubbles and ensure full contact.
- Curing: Allow the adhesive to cure for about 24 hours (or per glue instructions) before putting any load on the base.
Once properly bonded, the canopy base can handle the significant stress from a deployed bimini top under wind and motion. Tip: Periodically inspect the edges of the patch – if you notice any lifting over time, you can reapply adhesive or replace the base after several seasons of heavy use to maintain a secure hold.
