This compact Ø22mm valve is designed for small inflatables and boats where a larger valve would be impractical. With an outer flange diameter of 22mm (and a small inner orifice), this valve is commonly found on inflatable kayaks, float tubes, air mattresses, and toys, as well as certain auxiliary chambers in boats (for example, inflatable seat cushions or bolsters). Despite its modest size, the valve offers all the needed features: a one-way mechanism to maintain pressure during inflation, and the ability to fully deflate by disassembly.
The construction is two-piece – an inner portion (base) with the valve mechanism, and an outer cap/flange. Installation involves a punched or pre-made hole of about 22mm through which the inner part is inserted; the outer part then screws on from the outside, clamping the material in between. This creates a reliable seal without needing glue. This method is similar to larger valves but scaled down. The material is typically high-grade polyamide or ABS, which resists UV exposure, fresh and salt water, and even fuel – hence its use in flexible tanks.
In use, the valve is straightforward: attach a pump (often small valves come with a matching adapter). As you inflate, air enters and the check-valve prevents it from escaping. After reaching the desired pressure, simply close the cap tightly. To deflate, unscrew the cap and then carefully unscrew the inner valve core (if the design allows) or remove the entire valve assembly. Due to the small size, deflation usually occurs quickly.
- Boat Applications: Employed as a standard valve on smaller inflatables (2–3 m), kids’ boats, as well as specific inflatable elements like seats, backrests, or flotation collars. It serves as the replacement part (code 02382) in many models.
- Other Uses: Excellent for inflatable air mattresses, beach gear, and toys where compactness is key. Also, if you have a flexible water bag (e.g., a solar shower or portable tank), this valve is often the type used as its cap assembly.
- Advantages: The small diameter means a smaller hole in the fabric, which preserves strength in small inflatables. Additionally, the valve’s light weight minimally affects the balance and weight of the product.
- Installation & Maintenance: Ensure the rubber O-ring (if provided) is in place during installation to prevent leaks. Do not over-tighten the pieces, as the fine threads could strip. Keep sand and debris out of the valve before closing it to prolong the seal’s life and ensure trouble-free operation.
