This tiny single-LED light by Osculati is designed to serve as a marker light – a small glow that indicates a location or boundary without actually illuminating the whole area. With an outer diameter of just 28 mm, it’s almost unnoticeable when off. It installs into a small cut-out (approximately 14×20 mm) and is held in place by a fitting or spring (the fixture comes with a retainer for mounting). The recess depth needed is minimal (the unit is very shallow), which means you can install it even in panels thinner than 10 mm.
The LED in this model is very low-power – 0.24 W, yet the light output (~4 lm) is sufficient for its primary purpose: to mark something in the dark. For example, if you place this little light on each step of a companionway ladder, it will outline the steps so people can see where to tread at night. With its warm white light (around 3000K) emitted in a narrow ~30° beam, the lamp creates a pinpoint pleasant glow on the immediate surface in front of it, without spreading much light to the sides. This is important because 4 lumens is delicate – if it were spread out, it would be barely visible; but concentrated in a narrow beam, it stands out clearly when viewed head-on.
The construction materials are suited for the marine environment: the housing/holder is white ABS, resistant to salt exposure and UV (it won’t yellow quickly). The front lens is tiny and clear, protecting the LED. The lamp carries an IP54 ingress protection – meaning it’s shielded against dust and limited splashing (e.g., when installed under shelter or indoors). Therefore, use it primarily in the interior or in protected areas (it’s not meant for direct heavy rain or submersion).
It runs on 12V DC, standard for virtually all boats and campers. Its consumption is so low that even if you left 10 of these lights on continuously, they’d collectively draw only about 2.4 W – negligible compared to regular lighting. This makes it ideal for long-term marking – for instance, it can stay on all night as an indicator for an exit or deck edge without draining your battery.
Use Cases:
- Step/Ladder Marking: Place a lamp on the riser of each step leading below deck. At night, they will outline the staircase – enhancing safety for going up and down without needing the main lights.
- Deck/Cockpit Guide: In the cockpit, just above the companionway threshold (coaming), install a light. It will mark the cabin entrance so one can locate the opening in the dark. Similarly, you can mark doorway frames or narrow passages.
- Decorative Strip: Mount a series of these mini LEDs along the outline of the ceiling or floor in the saloon – they will create an indirect cozy line of light. 4 lumens each is not much, but if spaced out, the effect is like a gentle starry glimmer – very attractive and calming.
- Automotive Use: Since it’s 12V, this little light can be embedded in a car to illuminate a door sill when the door opens, or in the trunk as a tiny indicator light.
(Installation tip: ensure the lamp is securely fixed – you might add a dab of silicone or adhesive to prevent it from loosening under vibration. Due to its low brightness, it’s best appreciated in complete darkness.)
