This grey outboard engine cover is specifically designed to protect the top part (cowling) of your motor when the boat is not running or the engine is in storage. Manufacturer Oceansouth is known for high-quality covers, and this model uses their flagship ATLAS™ fabric – a heavy-duty polyester material (340 g/m²) that is waterproof, breathable, and UV-resistant. The interior of the cover features a soft felt-like lining that shields the engine’s finish from scratches or scuffs, even during transport or if something bumps against it.

Fabric and Quality: The ATLAS™ fabric is UV-stabilized, meaning it won’t degrade or fade quickly under harsh sunlight. This is crucial since outboards often sit in direct sun – the cover not only protects the motor but also remains robust itself. The seams are double-stitched and tape-sealed to ensure no water leaks through the needle holes. An elasticized hem is sewn into the bottom of the cover, allowing it to hug the engine cowling securely. Thanks to this elastic fit, installation is extremely easy – you simply stretch the cover over the top of the engine – and there’s no need for additional straps or tie-downs to keep it in place.

7 Available Sizes – Complete Engine Range Coverage:
The cover comes in seven sizes, tailored to fit different engine horsepower categories and their cowling dimensions. The approximate fit for each size is as follows:

  • Size XS (code 46.537.01): Fits small engines 2–4 HP (both 2-stroke and 4-stroke). Example: very small outboards used on dinghies, typically around 40 cm cowling length.
  • Size S (code 46.537.02): Fits engines roughly 5–15 HP; common portable outboards for small fishing boats.
  • Size M (code 46.537.03): Fits mid-range engines 15–30 HP; covers many models often used on inflatable boats and small skiffs.
  • Size L (code 46.537.04): Fits 30–60 HP; typical for RIBs and runabouts in that horsepower range.
  • Size XL (code 46.537.05): Fits 60–100 HP; used on medium-sized boats and pontoons.
  • Size 2XL (code 46.537.06): Fits 115–150 HP; ideal for powerful outboards on larger vessels.
  • Size 3XL (code 46.537.07): Fits 175–250 HP; made for the biggest outboards, including V6 models with tall cowlings.

These size categories cover practically all common outboard engines on the market. For precision, each cover size also lists its approximate dimensions (Length x Width x Height) so you can compare to your motor’s cowling. For example, if you have a 90 HP outboard, you would choose size XL (60–100 HP), which has approximately 68 x 40 x 53 cm dimensions, matching the bulk of that engine’s top.

Advantages of Use:

  • Engine Protection: The cover shields your engine from rain – preventing water from pooling on or seeping into the cowl when the boat is parked. It also blocks UV rays, which can otherwise crack plastic covers or fade the paint and decals on the engine. Dust, leaves, bird droppings – all of that lands on the cover, not your motor. If towing the boat on a trailer, the cover protects the engine from bugs and road grit as well.
  • Thermal & Aesthetic Benefits: The grey color is neutral and complements most boat color schemes, while also being cooler in direct sun compared to black (it reflects some heat). The cover is easy to clean – you can hose it off or wipe it down. It features the Oceansouth logo/branding, a mark of quality.
  • Practicality: Once removed, the cover folds up relatively compact. You can stash it in a storage bag or compartment. The material remains flexible in cold weather and doesn’t become misshapen in heat. It’s designed for the marine environment, so it handles temperature swings, sun, and salt without issues.

Usage Recommendations: Always use the cover when your boat is docked, on its trailer, or whenever the engine is not in active use. Doing so greatly extends the life of your outboard – protecting its electronics and mechanical parts from moisture and sun damage. At the end of the boating season, rinse the cover with fresh water (a mild soap can be used if it’s dirty), let it dry, and store it – this prevents mildew and keeps it fresh for next season.

With the Oceansouth outboard motor cover, you’re investing in peace of mind – your engine will be well protected from the elements and will stay looking new for longer. This cover stands out for its premium quality and precise fit, making it a top choice for both recreational boaters and professionals. It’s a small investment to protect a very significant part of your boating equipment – your engine – ensuring it’s ready to perform and is safeguarded against environmental wear and tear.
