Anchor chain markers allow you to quickly and conveniently mark various lengths on your chain so you know exactly how much is out when anchoring. Each set includes a number of bright yellow plastic clips specifically designed for calibrated anchor chains (DIN766) of a given diameter. The markers snap onto a chain link and remain secure even as they pass over a windlass gypsy or bow roller. This enables you to mark your chain at chosen intervals (for example, every 5 or 10 meters), greatly simplifying consistency and safety when dropping anchor.
Yellow was chosen for its high visibility in water and on deck. Even in low light or at night with a flashlight, the marked links stand out clearly. The marker material is a tough engineering-grade plastic that resists saltwater, temperature changes, and UV sunlight – it won’t crack or fade over time. Installation is simple: just position the marker in the middle of a chain link and press until it clicks into place. If you need to remove or reposition it, you can pry it off with a screwdriver or pliers without harming the chain.
Variants & Usage:
- 6 mm chain (code 04258-6Y): Set of ~14 markers, suitable for smaller chains – e.g., to mark every 5 meters on a chain of about 50 m total length. Ideal for small boats where precise anchor positioning is needed in tight anchorages.
- 8 mm chain (code 04258-8Y): Set of ~10 markers designed for medium chains (~30–40 m length). Great for mid-sized boats and motor yachts, allowing easy control when paying out more chain in deeper waters.
- 10 mm chain (code 04258-10Y): Set of ~10 markers for larger chains and boats. The markers can be placed at 10 m intervals on an ~80–100 m anchor chain, common for bigger vessels anchoring in deep spots.
- 12 mm chain (code 04258-12Y): Set of ~8 markers intended for heavy chains on large yachts. Such chains are often very long; the markers let you quickly assess how much chain is out even when deploying dozens of meters.
Using chain markers enhances safety: you always know exactly how much rode you have in the water, which helps maintain the proper anchor angle and adequate scope. This prevents both having too little chain out (risking anchor drag) and too much chain out (risk of tangling on obstacles or other vessels). With our yellow markers, managing your ground tackle becomes precise and professional.
