Boat Cover Snap Fastener Kit – Chrome-Plated Brass, 17 mm Head
This Ø17 mm snap fastener set is the classic solution for attaching fabric items to your boat. The kit includes two parts: a cap (female top) with a wide, decorative head, and a stud component (male bottom). During installation, both parts are affixed to the canvas – typically the cap on the visible outside and the male part on the underside or a strap. Once installed, you get a secure fastening: the snap will click onto a corresponding stud/base mounted on the boat.
Made of chrome-plated brass, these fasteners are exceptionally resistant to corrosion. Brass as the core provides strength and longevity, and the chrome finish gives a shiny silver appearance and extra protection. Even after repeated exposure to saltwater, these snaps won’t rust or verdigris, unlike ordinary steel ones. The 17 mm head diameter is a standard for marine canvas – large enough to provide a good grip and tension, and easy to grasp and snap in place.
Installation: To install the set, you’ll need a tool (hand press or punch-and-die set) for crimping. Position the cap on the desired spot of the fabric and the male stud on the opposite side; use the tool to press them together until the cap’s prongs clinch firmly. The result is a permanently attached snap ready for use. Our 17 mm button set is compatible with all standard bases – it can snap onto a plastic stud (like code 00645) or a metal screw-in stud.
Applications: This snap size is widely used for securing bimini tops, travel boat covers, cabin enclosures, as well as side curtains and dodgers on powerboats and sailboats. They allow you to quickly remove or install covers – simply pull to unsnap, or press the two halves together to snap closed.
