This sliding latch mechanism provides a simple and effective way to secure small doors, hatches, and cabinets on your boat. The construction is all 304-grade stainless steel, ensuring reliable protection against rust under normal operating conditions. It consists of a main bracket (which attaches to the frame) and a sliding bolt that moves in a guide and locks into place, securely latching the door closed. When the bolt is slid forward, it holds the panel shut and prevents accidental opening due to the vessel’s motion or vibrations.
For added security, this bolt latch features an integrated padlock eye – if you want to lock a compartment, you can insert a padlock through the hole, which fixes the sliding bolt in the closed position. This is especially useful for tool lockers, storage compartments, or cabin doors that need to stay locked when you leave the boat unattended. The mechanism is flexible to install: you can mount it vertically (for example on a door) or horizontally (on a hatch), depending on the setup. Four mounting holes allow for secure attachment with screws, and the compact dimensions (base roughly 117x40 mm) mean the latch can fit into tight spaces. The metal surface has a smooth inox finish that matches well with other hardware and doesn’t detract from the boat’s interior or exterior appearance.
- Ideal Uses: Securing cabin doors, equipment lockers, electrical panel covers, or furniture lids on the boat. The bolt offers quick access when needed and secure closure during operation.
- Recommended Usage: Best suited for interior spaces or sheltered areas (under a canopy/roof), as 304 stainless performs optimally in moderate conditions. For continuous exposure on open decks in salty conditions, 316-grade hardware is advised for maximum longevity.
- For Various Boats: Can be used on all types of vessels – from small fishing boats and RIBs to larger sailing and motor yachts – anywhere a simple and reliable locking mechanism is required.
- Padlock Pairing: For maximum corrosion resistance, we recommend using a stainless steel padlock. The latch is designed to accommodate standard padlock sizes, allowing you to choose your preferred brand or model for securing the bolt.
