The Inox 65×23 mm latch is a compact yet durable solution for securing various compartments on board. Despite its small footprint, this mechanism is built from high-grade stainless steel and can withstand daily use in damp, salty conditions. Its design includes a main body with a lever/tongue and a matching catch plate (eye) that mounts on the frame. When closed, the latch’s tongue engages the catch and the cover remains firmly shut.
One important feature of this model is its capability for adding a lock. The body has a hole/hasp where you can install a small key cylinder or pass a padlock if desired. This means if you want to protect the contents of a cabinet or hatch, you can easily integrate a key lock. If quick access is the priority, the mechanism works perfectly fine without an additional lock – simply close the lid and the spring-loaded tongue will snap into place.
Ideal uses: Thanks to its compact size (only 65×23 mm), this latch can be installed in places where larger locks wouldn’t fit. For example:
- Electronics console or instrument panel doors – keeps them closed, yet a technician can quickly open for service when needed.
- Cabin or galley cabinets – holds provisions and personal items secure so the doors won’t swing open in rough seas. If leaving the boat unattended, you can lock the cabinet with a key for security.
- Tiller hatches or seat lockers – where space for a latch is limited, this mechanism fits perfectly to keep those small lids secure.
- Battery box or fuel valve compartments – keeps them protected and prevents accidental access, yet offers quick unlatching in an emergency.
Installation & Maintenance: Installation only requires a few screws. It’s recommended to use the provided stainless steel screws (or appropriate equivalents) to avoid rust stains. Position the latch on the cover, mark the screw holes, and likewise position the catch plate on the frame so that the tongue securely grabs it. After installation, check that the action is smooth and there’s no play – adjust the positioning slightly if needed. Maintenance is minimal: a periodic rinse with fresh water and a drop of lubricant on the lever hinge will ensure it continues to operate smoothly and reliably.
