The base of a marine toilet is the component that holds everything together – it secures the toilet to the floor (or deck) and connects the bowl with the pump and plumbing. If the base gets damaged (for example, cracked due to impact or temperature-induced stress, or the plastic ages and warps), the entire toilet assembly loses its integrity. This can manifest as water leakage around the bottom of the toilet, instability (the toilet wobbles when used), or misalignment of the pump and hoses leading to vacuum and pumping issues.
The replacement base (code 01430-5) allows you to restore the structural strength and watertightness of the toilet without replacing the whole unit. This base is identical to the original that comes with model 01430 – with the same dimensions, holes, and threading. It features the built-in discharge channel/port for waste (where the joker valve sits and the outlet hose attaches) and the inlet opening toward the pump for flush water. Installation involves attaching the pump assembly on top, securing the porcelain bowl to the front (in the standard configuration), and screwing the base down to the floor with appropriate screws or bolts.
Benefits & Installation:
- Precise Restoration: Since this spare part is made to factory specs, after replacement your toilet will once again have the original geometry and fit of components. The pump will sit at the correct angle, the bowl will rest securely on the base, and the hoses will connect without twisting or strain – exactly as designed.
- Stops Leaks: Often with a cracked base, there may be water seeping out (especially during flushing when the system is pressurized). The new base, paired with fresh seals, will eliminate those leaks. Be sure to also install a new gasket between the base and the porcelain bowl (if one is used in your model) for complete watertightness.
- Installation Tips: When swapping the base, first remove the pump and bowl from the old base. Take note of the position of all gaskets and fasteners so you can reassemble correctly. Clean the flooring/deck where the old base sat before placing the new one – remove any salt, rust, or old silicone grease. Set the new base in position, screw it firmly to the floor (using stainless hardware), then remount the bowl and pump. Test the setup – if installed correctly, there should be no movement or play in any part of the toilet.
- Durable Material: The base is made of tough ABS/polypropylene plastic (or equivalent) with additives to resist aging. This means it will withstand mechanical stresses (e.g., weight of users, boat vibrations) for a long time and won’t easily crack again. Still, avoid over-tightening bolts during installation, as excessive pressure in one spot can damage any plastic component.
- Solution for Old Equipment: If your toilet is an older model, this new base can be a lifesaver, as original spare parts are often hard to find. With this component, you’ll avoid having to purchase an entirely new toilet, effectively restoring your existing one to excellent working condition.
